For example, you have no idea of what to do with those ten long minutes between classes. Make your picks for the week, and then at the end of the day, drop them off at the Student Publications Building at 420 Maynard for your chance to win. Just ask Liz Calfas. Calfas innocently dropped off her picks last week and ended up walking away with a $12 gift certificate to O'Sullivan's Eatery and Pub. You can too. ASSOCIATED PRESS r41 f 4 ToP 25 1. Vaughn's previous game high was last year against Minnesota when he ran for 26 yards. Michigan ran for a total of 265 yards against the Irish compared to 94 net yards last year (119 yards rushing total). Said Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz: "I've never seen a team run the ball like that against a Notre Dame team since I've been here." Vaughn fumbled on Michigan's first possession, allowing Notre Dame excellent field position, which eventually led to a touchdown. Moeller said it was not Vaughn's fault, but rather a miscommunication caused by the no-huddle offense. "He wasn't supposed to touch that ball," Moeller said. Vaughn was happy his coach, who said he would rotate Vaughn, Allen Jefferson and possibly Ricky Powers until someone showed the hot hand stuck with him. "In the back of my mind, I am happy that coach Moeller had the confi- dence to play me as much as he did. But all in all, if I'd had gained a thousand yards and we lost, it still wouldn't matter as much as winning,' Vaughn said. Jefferson spelled Vaughn at times and accumulated 21 yards on four carries. Powers did not see action in the running back slot. QUOTEBOX: Vaughn speaks on the no huddle: "I like it. I think it's effective and I think we should continue using it. We shouldn't shy away from it. I think we're a well-enough conditioned team that it doesn't take away from our game plan at all - especially at home where we can hear the call. We were ready for it. Mo wouldn't have used it if he didn't think it would work." THIRD-RATE ON THIRD DOWN: Michigan was 3-for-11 on third down conversions Saturday, compared to 8-for-14 for Notre Dame. Rich Mirer completed a critical pass on 3rd and six on Notre Dame's last pos- session and a crazy 3rd and 15, 41-yard completion that hit one receiver (Raghib Ismail) and landed in the hands of another (Lake Dawson). Both were instrumental in the Irish's win. SIDELINERS: College basketball announcer Dick Vitale was spotted on campus wearing a Notre Dame sweatshirt Saturday afternoon before the game. Vitale's daughter attends the school... Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz had a camera installed on one of the scoreboards. The purpose is to record all the actions occurring in the tunnel the teams enter and exit from. Notre Dame has received criticism in past years for numerous scuf- fles beginning in the tunnel with the opposing team. - Greg Gollent Consumer Economics and Housing Cornell University "The first time I saw a Macintosh, I was immediately hooked.
