with big men, and I bump my head
on things, and I make goofy faces at
the guards, and I fight with the mean
prisoner, and it's really funny, Vern
- really funny, know what I mean?
You gonna see it, huh huh, you gonna
see it? It's really funny, you gonna see
it? Hey Vern, why are you pointing

.,
West Side Story
(R. Wise & J. Robbins, 1%1)
Mich 5:15 & 12mid. MTF
From Arthur Laurent's play, with a
score by Leonard Bernstein and
Stephen Sondheim with the oh-so-
incredible choreography by Jerome
Robbins (That's Broadway), Romeo
and Juliet move up a few centuries to
New York City of the '5s. Awarded
10 Oscars in its day. The perfect
movie before a night at the Nect-a-
thing.
A Streetcar Named Desire
(Elia Kazan, 1951)
MLB4 7pm & 9:30 CG
Stella, Stella! Tennessee Williams at
his darkest best in his play about
polar opposites whose meeting
portends tragic fulfillment and
destruction. In their most vivid roles,
Vivien Leigh as Blanche DuBois and
Marlon Brando as Stanley Kowalski
transgress in a steamy New Orleans
tenement.
Seduction: The Cruel Woman
(E. Mikesh & M. Treut, 1986)
MLB3 7:30 & 9:15 AAFC
Wanda, a dominatrix, whose troupe
services customers and stages
elaborate S&M performances, leaves
her German lesbian lover for an
American "trainee" (Sheila
McGlaughlin) and deal harshly with a
male performer whose sin is being in
love with her. Stylized and color-
coordinated like Fassbinder, this is
"S&M by Avedon, outfits by Dior."
An investigation of the dark side of
the human psyche by the director of
The Virgin Machine. Part of the Gay &
Lesbian Film Festival.
Roger and Me
(Michael Moore, 1989)

(\aync \Vang. 199)
Lorch 7pm & 9pm UMASCfree
Happily, it's love at first sight for Ben
Loi and Mei Oi, whose marriage has
been arranged. Only when meddling
friends and relatives insist that they
have a child does their happiness start
to crumble. Set in New York's
Chinatown of 1949, this eccentric
charming film has the feel of a '40s
screwball comedy. An Ann Arbor
premiere.
The Suitors
(Ghasam Ebrahimian, 1988)
Aud A 7pm & 9pm AAFC
"Before we are 15 minutes into The
Suitors, this dark satire reveals the
dangers of slaghtering sheep in a
bathtub. A quirky first feature written
and directed by G. Ebrahimian, who
was born in Iran and who settled in
the U.S. in the '70s, the film also
takes a sharp affectionate view of
Iranian immigrants trying to merge
their traditions with Manhattan
living." Events turn unpredictable as
a swAT team is called in and a widow
is wooooed by an unusual quartet.
According to the NY Times, "Part
Alfred Hitchcock, part Lucille Ball."
The Last Wave
(Peter Weir, 1977)
MLB3 7pm & 9pm CG
A disquieting psychological thriller
from Australia by the director of Dead
Poet's Society. A young attorney
(Richard Chamberlain), drawn into
the defense of five Aboriginals
accused of committing a ritual
murder, is troubled by eerie,
recurrent dreams that suggest both
some enigmatic connection between
himself and his clients, and the
existence of an alternative reality that
is about to descend on an
unsuspecting continent.
Scandal
(Michael Caton-Jones, 1989)
MLB4 8pm/DBIL Med
In his directorial debut, Caton-Jones
recounts the 1963 sex scandal that
ruined more than a few political
careers and eventually helped
collapse the conservative government
in England. John Hurt plays
upstanding Dr. Stephen Ward whose
slightly offbeat hobby is providing
the rich and powerful with teen party
girls. Ward's portrayed as the victim
of the whole affair, and comes off
mush more angelic than he was in real
life.
Fatal Attraction
(Adrian Lynec, 1987)
MLB4 10pm/DBL Med
Glenn Close has a crush on the very-
married Michael Douglas, but takes it
a little too far for etiquette to allow.
Tips on how not to have an affair with
a married man. A Looney Tunes
cartoon, also about an obsession
(perhaps with carrots?) thematically
precedes the movie.
Angel Heart
(Alan Parker, 1987)
Hillel 9pm & 11pm HSC
Angel Heart's controversy
overshadowed its competence as a
mystery thriller, a quest into the dark
realms of voodoo identity of the
Oedipal sort (the Sophocles play, not
Freud). Set in New Orleans, Mickey
Rourke plays a two-bit detective set

and romance. Preceded by the

accompaniment and are part of the
