Page 14 -The Michigan Daily- Friday, March 30, 1990 Softball team loses by Sarah Osburn Daily Sports Writer The Michigan softball team has to find a replacement for injured shortstop Bonnie Tholl. Tholl, a junior and first team all-Big Ten player last year, dislocated her shoulder in the Bud Lite tournament Allard last weekend. The injury could be fatal to the Michigan squad as they travel to the Ohio State Tournament, which is being played today and tomorrow in Columbus, Ohio. Softball coach Carol Hutchin's worries, though, lie with Tholl. "She is out for this weekend and we are not expecting her to play," she said. "She is in a situation that we are just going to have to see how it comes along. It could be a while or it could just be a couple of weeks."' To fill her spot, Hutchins has two alternatives. She could call on team captain Jenny Allard or she could use sophomore back-up third base player, Shelley Bawol. "We worked both Jenny and Shelley," Hutchins said. "I'd like to keep Shelley at short and Jenny at third, that way I won't be moving two (players) out of position. That's probably what I'll do." Either way, the Wolverines should be able to do well this weekend. In the event that Tholl's absence is extended, the Ohio State Tour- nament will be a good chance for whoever replaces her to sharpen up their shortstop skills. For the University of Iowa sponsored event, coach LeClaire will be bringing down five golfers with her. The group includes Kristen Beilstein, Wendy Bigler, Mary Hartman, Becky Hayes, and Erica Zonder. All five will play and the top four scores among them will be counted. "We spent spring break in San Diego and I shot in the low 80's there," said Bigler who is the only first-year student among a group of veterans. "I hope to get back into tournament golf form this weekend since we haven't played many Arizona tournaments since the fall." The invitational is set to take place down in Nogales, Arizona where the women will face competition from eight other schools. However, it will be difficult to predict where the golfers will finish because little is known about four of the teams. "We've never played Washington State, Missouri, Pepperdine, or Cal State," added LeClaire.
