But his performance as paralyzed Vietnam vet Ron Kovic is the highlight of Oliver Stone's larger- than-life film. (At Briarwood - 1:00, 4:00, 7:00, 9:45, 12:15; at Showcase -1:00, 4:00, 7:15, 10:00) Driving MISS Daisy Elderly Southern woman Jessica Tandy and chauffeur Morgan Freeman break down some social barriers. Adapted from Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, performed in Ann Arbor last semester. Strange casting award goes to Dan Ackroyd as Miss Daisy's son Boolie. (At Showcase - 12:05, 2:20, 4:25, 7:40,9:40, 11:35) Flashback Kiefer Sutherland is a fed. Dennis Hopper is a hippie. The combination is evidently worth making a movie out of. (At Briarwood - 12:00, 2:15, 4:30, 7:00, 9:20, 11:30; at Showcase - 12:25, 2:55, 5:10, 7:30, 9:55, 12:15) Glory Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, and Denzel Washington star in this lauded film about the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the first Black battalion in the Civil War. Directed by Edward Zwick, a producer of thirtysomething. But don't hold that against him. (At Briarwood -12:00, 2:20,4:40, 7:10,9:45, 12:00; at Showcase -12:00., 2:25, 4:45, 7:10, 9:40, 12:10) Kiefer Sutherland (left) and Dennis Hopper search the university tunnels for a ticket to Flashback, the hip new acid flick premiering this weekend in Ann Arbor. Heart Condition Bob Hoskins is a sloppy L.A. vice cop, Denzel Washington is a slick attorney, and Chloe Webb is the mutual love interest. Cop and attorney hate each other. So, anyway, Hoskins has a heart attack. He needs a transplant, and lo and behold, Washington dies. The vital organ in question enters Hoskins' body, and Hoskins finds himself haunted by Washington's ghost. The miracles of Hollywood medicine. (At Showcase -12:35, 2:40, 4:35, 7:30, 9:30, 11:40) Henry V Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Shakespeare is grittier than Olivier's version but makes an admirable transition from stage to film. (At Ann Arbor 1 & 2; call for times.) Internal Affairs Internal Affairs is the division watching the watchmen in a film evidently about bureaucracy running rampant. Andy Garcia fights corruption within the police department, namely Richard Gere. (At* Briarwood - 12:30, 2:45, 5:00, 7:30, 9:50, 12:00; at Showcase - 12:45, 2:50, 5:00, 7:45, 10:00, 12:05) The Little Mermald Disney returns to fairytales with great success in this tale of the little fish girl who wants legs. (At Showcase -12:00, 2:00, 4:00, 6:00) Look Who's Talking John Travolta makes a comeback, and Bruce Willis is the voice that summons him from the land of the lost. How frightening. (At Showcase - 3:00, 9:55, 11:40) The Music Box Jessica Lange is a lawyer who defends her Hungarian father from allegations that he's a Nazi war criminal. This is the first of a mini slew of Holocaust-related films to reach Ann Arbor. Costa- Gravas directs the drama. (At Briarwood - 7:00, 9:15) The Rocky Horror PIcture show Just see it already, dammit. (At Briarwood, 11:45 p.m.) Roger & Me Creator Michael Moore is giving $25,000 of his film's profits to the four Flint, Michigan families that were evicted while his camera was running on the underbelly of the town General Motors built. Is it a token sum from a malicious artist or a tender gesture from a native son? Decide for yourself. (At Showcase - 12:30, 2:45, 5:05, 7:20, 9:40, 12:00) Steel Magnolias Southern women show strength and bond, to boot. Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, and Dolly Parton are but a sampling of the big names to be found in the film. (At Briarwood - 12:00, 2:20, 4:40, 7:05, 9:30; at Showcase - 12:45, 5:15, 7:45) Stella Bette Midler as Stella is a (sniff) hardworking single parent who sends her (sob) daughter Trini Alvarado to live a (choke) better life with her father - it's the "ultimate sacrifice." BOOHOOHOOO!!! (At Showcase -12:10, 2:30, 4:55, 7:25, 9:45, 12:15; at Ann Arbor 1 & 2 - call for times.) Tango & Cash Sylvester Stallone (who has sung only once in his film career in Rhinestone) and Kurt Russell (who might have sung off-key in Big Trouble in Little China, though the scene isn't memorable) star in this cop-buddy movie. Neither sing. (At Briarwood - 7:15, 9:30; at Showcase - 1:05, 3:10, 5:20, 7:35, 9:45, 11:50) Tremors A horror B-movie featuring Kevin Bacon in which four gigantic worms with teeth terrorize a town. It's Dune for those who don't like the sight of pus extraction. (At Briarwood - 7:15, 9:30; at Showcase - 12:40, 2:35, 4:40, 7:15, 9:25, 11:30) War of the Roses Divorce and pets just don't mix in this black comedy from director Danny DeVito, who pits Michael Douglas against Kathleen Turner.
