Hunger and Homelessness
in Ann Arbor
Winter is here, and while we can wrap up in warm coats after a nice warm dinner, many are not as fortunate. There are
lots of ways you can help make their days a little warmer and a little better. Remember how good Scrooge felt when
he thought of others during the holiday season! Follow in those illustrious footsteps, and get acquainted with one of
these groups.
Ann Arbor Hunger Coalition: Currently, twenty-one groups cook and serve the four meals sponsored through the
organization's community free meals program. Volunteers are needed in various capacities.
Youth Housing Coalition: This agency provides temporary emergency shelter to runaway and homeless teenagers.
Volunteers can host a client in their home once or twice a month or act as a contact person who organizes placement in
homes for clients.
The Homeless Project: Resource assistants are needed to aid in providing homefinding and housing support services
to the homeless and mentally ill of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
Prospect Place Family Shelter: This emergency shelter program is looking for volunteers in a variety of areas,
including children's services, day and night staff coverage, and family assistance.
Shelter Association of Ann Arbor/Wit House: Beds, showers, and laundry facilities are provided to homeless
individuals eighteen years of age and older in a warm, safe environment. Opportunities for volunteers include
overnight supervisor and program aides in various capacities.
Homeless Action Committee: A student group concerned with the issues of homelessness encourages interested
persons to attend their weekly meetings.
There are lots of hungry and homeless people right here in Ann Arbor who could use your help. For more information
(and to volunteer!) please call the S.E.R.V.E. office at 936-2437, or stop by 2211 Michigan Union.

'U-Club 's Thanksgiving Buffet Continues
The U-Club's sumptuous Thanksgiving Buffet will continue Monday,
Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. The Union's elegant restau-
rant on the first floor will be serving this buffet daily between 11:00 and
2:00. Imagine savoring the warm, rich aromas, tasting the wonderful
flavor of home cooking, and'sharing the joyful spirit of Thanksgiving
with some special friends. Whether your group is large (the whole
office) or small (a private party of two), you will enjoy this early and
memorable Thanksgiving dinner.
In case you missed the highlights of the menu last week, they sound
just as good this week. Start with oysters and clams on the half shell
or mini-quiche; then move on to the salad bowl or mandarin orange
and sesame salad. For the main course, enjoy carved roast turkey,
roast beef au jus, or ham with pineapple, served with some rice pilaf
florentine or vegetable medley with (of course) cranberry sauce. If you
still have room, there is pumpkin pie or Strawberries Rebecca along
with your coffee or hot spiced cider. All this for only $8.95 per person!

Just follow these three easy steps and be on your way to creating a
spectacular student organization!
1. Hire a professional consultant, just like the big corporations do.
But instead of paying top dollar, you can pay NO dollars...and get
expert advice for free. The Student Organization Development
Center (SODC) in Room 2202 of the Union is a group of professional
Organizational Consultants whose mission is to help you and your
group be as successful as possible. They can help you reorganize, set
agendas and goals, or anything else needed to get your group up and
moving. Call 763-5900 to find out more.
2. Become an official U-M group, no matter how small your mem-
bership is now (it WILL grow). Register or re-register your group
with MSA, the Michigan Student Assembly and be a part of the
action. Just get a form at Room 3909 in the Union, have five students
from your group sign it, and turn it in. Simple!
3. Start an expense account, just like other influential groups do.
Once you are a member of MSA, you are entitled to a Student
Organization Account. Once you have the account, your group can
begin to get visible and change the world! Call the Student Organiza-
