HARLEM NIGHTS
Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor

THE LITTLE MERMAID
It's Disney's 28th full length
animated feature, and their first
animated fairy tale since Cinderella
came out 30 years ago-and it's a
gem. Charming yarn about a lovely

streets of urban Chicago to revenge
his brother's murder by a group of

PRANCER
With a title like this, how
couldn't it be a Christmas movie?

out to return it to St. Nick. I guess
we finally find out if Santa is real.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS
The stories of six southern
women and their relationships are
told in the new, long-awaited
picture from director Herbert Ross.
The cast alone should cause a
healthy holiday harvest with the
likes of superstars Sally Field,
Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLame,
Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis,
Julia Roberts, and Sam Shepard. At
Briarwood: 12:00, 2:30, 4:50, 7:30,

FRIDAY
THE PRISONER OF ZENDA
(John Cromwell, 1937) MLB 4
7:00
The oft-remade swashbuckler
starring Ronald Colman, Mary
Astor, and Douglas Fairbanks is
still a gem of an entertainer. Big
and lavish from the start, Colman
is forced to play the part of a look-
alike cousin, a king. Meanwhile,
though, he finds himself falling in
love with a real princess.
LOST HORIZON(Frank Capra,
1937) MLB 4 9:00
One of the great films of all
time. Based on the legendary James
Hilton novel, five plane crash
survivors in the Himalayas
accidently stumble into Shangri-La,
a paradise world of ageless beauty
and immortality. A bit overly
political at times, but justly so,
this film is brilliant. Starring
Ronald Colman and Sam Jaffe.
THE LOST BOYS (Joel
Schumacher, 1987) Aud A 7:00,
8:45, & 10:15
When a family moves to
California, they find that the local
town gang is a bunch of vampires.
Elements of comedy, horror, and an
overabundance of simplistic plot
development in this juvenile film.
Entertaining enough, though, to
keep interest from the start.
THE PRINCESS BRIDE (Rob
Reiner, 1987) MLB 3 6:20, 8:15,
& 10:15
Destined to be a cult classic?
Who knows. Comedic fairytale
from the wacky director Reiner
based on William Goldman's shtick
novel. Swashbuckler seeks out his
one true love after a long
separation, but he must encounter
countless adventures and guest stars
in the process like Andre the Giant
and Billy Crystal.
THE CRUCIFIED LOVERS
(Kenji Mizoguchi, 1954) Lorch
7:00
A working class woman is
accused of adultery with a clerk in
her husband's bookshop and the
two run away from certain death -
and fall in love. In Japanese with
subtitles.
THE DISORIENTATION
TOUR and IS THERE NO
ROOM FOR HEROS? (David
Kaliat, 1989) Aud A 7 & 9
A look at the University of
Michigan through the eyes of
student filmmaker Kaliat. Comic
book short film with an FBI agent
encountering a variety of adventures
and situations while all the while
getting to know Michigan better.
SATURDAY
BRAZIL (Terry Gilliam, 1985)
Hillel 7:00 & 9:30
One of the most creative and
unbelievable films ever! Robert
DeNiro stars in the Orwellian-like
futuristic story of a consumer
based, computer operated state.
Moment of black comedy placed
within the incredibly imaginative
production set. Visually unmatched.
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
(Robert Mulligan, 1962) MLB 3
7:00 & 9:15
You read the book, now see the
film. Harper Lee's novel comes to
screen starring Gregory Peck as the
lawyer in the Depression South
who must defend a black man
accused of rape in a racist society.
Important and well portrayed film
and one of Peck's best perform-
ances.
DANTON (Andrzej Wajda, 1983)
Aud A 7:00 & 9:30
French film from the premier
Polish director Wajda about two
great personalities of the French
Revolution, Robespierre and
Danton. The film more than
indirectly alludes to the then
situation in Poland and Lech
Walesa portrayed as the modern day
Danton.
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S
SEX COMEDY (Woody Allen,
1982) MLB 4 8:15
Woody Allen interpretation of
Ingmar Bergman's Smiles of a
Summer Night is both witty and
beautiful as the byplay of three
couples spending the weekend in
the country at the turn of the
century is told in a quirky fashion.
EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS
WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT
SEX* (Woody Allen, 1972) MLB
4 6:30 &10:00
An all-star cast stars in one of
Allen's biggest films. Tasteless and
hilarious, the film sketches different
episodes and interpretations of sex
ranging from Shakespeare to 2001.
The film that will finally yield all
the answers to questions, But were
afraid to ask.
