Page 12 - The Michigan Daily - Wednesday, November 1, 1989 Women' by Sean Phillips Daily Sports Contributor Over the weekend, Michigan's women's rugby team lost a hard-I fought battle to a club team fromj Chicago, 4-0. In a second game, Michigan combined with MichiganI State to defeat Chicago16-0. This1 was the squad's last game of the fall1 schedule before select members of the team prepare for the Midwest sub-union tournament in Madison, Wisconsin.1 The top players this season were, seniors Sheila Edsall, P.J. Fellows,1 s rugby Tasha Wesland, Sue Crowley, Erika Wolfe, a History of Art T.A., and K.C. Bemish. These players with the exception of Wolfe were selected for the tournament this weekend. "We did well but did not practice together enough. If season was longer the team would have been better," the team president Bemish said. The compilation of their 3-5-2 record speaks well of the team in light of the problems they have had to overcome. The team didn't have a stable home field to play on most of this finished for Fall season, leading them to play more away games where they lost most of their games. Even their practice time allotted was from 9-11 p.m. at night. This prohibited the team from reaching their full capbilities, being that the whole team almost never practiced at the same time. Also obtaining a coach would be a plus for the team. Despite the problems, the team remained positive. "The team overall was young, but experience is the best teacher and I only see good things coming from this team in the future," Bemish said. When the team regroups in January for the winter schedule, the present team is looking forward to a good recruiting class. "Hopefully with some exposure, we will gain dedicated, hard-working players." Wolfe said. She added that the team appreciated the fan support saying, "We even had some professors attending the games."
