Page 12 - The Michigan Daily/New Student Edition - Thursday, September 7, 198 Eats Continued from Page 10 happen to see, what's the best seafood? Real Seafood Co. Washington Street Station, 114 E. Washington - I can't figure this place out. The station seems to suffer from schitzophrenia. At one moment you might think it's Bennigan's and then it's like Gandy Dancer. One time when I was there and a father and his young son were celebrating his daughter's 11th birth- day. Watching their happy faces was reason enough to frequent Washington Street. Now going out to dinner with your parents is fun, at least once or twice a year, but taking a date to dinner can be an experience beyond compare. All the above restaurants will more than suffice as places to impress your favorite steady. There are other establishments in town, however, to take a date out to. Of course a romantic evening could be anything from splitting a carton of McNuggets to sipping Dom Perigion from a crystal glass. The following restaraunts have all been verified from a staff of experts who analyzed over 3000 episodes of Love Connection, as places to wine and dine your way into that special someone's heart. Afternoon Delight, 251 E. Liberty - Not for dinner, but if "doing lunch" is all you can fit in your schedule then this sprouts and cheese fest is an absolute delight. Angelo's, 1100 Catherine - For the morning after it's the only place. The best French toast this side of the Riviera. Bella Ciao, 118 W. Liberty- When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore. And if amore's on your mind, you'll get more for your Lire here than any- where else in town. The Full Moon, 207 S. Main - If things are tense then maybe you and your date need to unwind with a drink and a burger. Full Moon has more liquor choices than any bar this side of Dougals County, Wisconsin. The place to unwind. Middle Kingdom, 332 S. Main - Chinese food taken to a new level. At times it can be as crowded as Tiannenen Square during a revolu- tion, but if you want a change for the better you have to be patient. Quality Bar, 347 S. Main - Owned by the people who brought you Gratzi, Maude's, and Real Seafood (Contrary to popular belief the state still owns the University). Rustic, fun, new, and it's got a roof- top deck to boot. My cab driver once called it "very art-deco," but I'm still trying to figure out what he meant by that. Bennigan's/Bicycle Jim's/Bombay Bicycle Club/Ruby Tuesday/Chi-Chi's/Olive Garden/Chilli's Bar and Grill, any mall - If you want to show your date originality steer clear of these saccharine chains. if you want a de- cent meal, and a waitperson with a grin then take your pick. Any of these are safe, but this is college - who needs safe? The last class of restaurant you need to know is the most important - the places you can eat after the bars close. It's amazing what some people will eat after they've downed their share of Molson's. By knowing directly where to go once your kicked out of the local taverns, you can get food in your system quicker, sober up faster, and if you eat right, there's no reason you shouldn't by ready to go to your 9:00 the next morning. The Brown Jug, 1024 S. University - Call it greasy, call the wait staff slow, insult it anyway you want. But no other place better de- fines Michigan. The best grilled cheese in the world, and if you do nothing else in your four years here, try the nachos. Open to 3:00 am on weekends. Denny's, 330 E. Liberty - Only in Ann Arbor could the world's classiest Denny's open. Their closed on Christmas, but any other hour of any other day you'll be able to get that fabled "Grand Slam Breakfast". Pizza House, 618 Church - The chapati capital of the free world. A good bet is to place your order on the way home and then wait in front of the tv watching CNN Headline Sports as the delivery person comes to your door food in hand. (Open un- : til 4 am) And don't forget Bell's Pizza (delivery until 4 am) when all else fails. 'a.. * :'~1 1'r AMIIT BHAN/Daity It's a new hip restaurant with a bar - Denny's. This is not your average Denny's though. It's said to be the most elegant in the world. And, yes it's open 24 hours-a-day, 364 days-a-year (the doors are closed on Xmas). 0' You're the Quarterback- 4th and Goal to Go to finish that term paper... S1 r What wi I I youh do? AMIT BHAN/Daily The Brown Jug may take a lot of abuse, but fry for fry, a finer restaurant that's open late and named for a football series can not be found. J m j .
