MARYLAND Continued from Page 1 yards rushing a game, we're not going to win," Schembechler said. While he begins to feel slightly more confident in his frosh redshirt quarterback, Elvis Grbac, Schem- bechler wants to see what his youthful interior line and backfield can accomplish against the stingy Terrapin defense. Maryland's offense, however, is far from stingy, led by the howitzer- like arm of quarterback Neil O'Donnell. The most accurate thrower in Maryland history, O'Donnell can run the ball too, rushing to a school record 125 yards last year. In his senior year, O'Donnell has the Terra- pins' all-time records for interception ratio and career.comhpletions within sight. The best part for Michigan, though, happens to be the fact that O'Donnell has a bruised throwing hand. "Yeah, that's the worst injury for a quarterback to have," Schembechler said. "Throw and whap, hit your (offensive lineman) on the helmet." Maryland coach Joe Krivak, who was Boomer Esiason's quarterback coach while Esiason attended Mary- land, believes that O'Donnell should be ready for Michigan. If not, junior backup Scott Zolak will take the snaps and Krivak's not too worried about that. "Everytime we call on Scott, he's jacked (about playing)," Krivak said. While Maryland should throw the ball everywhere, Michigan's faithful can expect to see clouds of turf, flying when the Wolverines are in possession of the football. "I'm glad we're playing against (a tough rushing defense)," Schem- bechler said. "If we can run and improve our running game, I'll look at that as a real improvement." Tony Boles, last week's offensive champion, will start alongside Leroy Hoard in the backfield, taking the ball from Grbac. Both rusher Jarrod Bunch and rusher/quarterback Mich- ael Taylor remain sidelined with injuries. Maryland's tough schedule con- tinues with Michigan. The Terrapins have already lost to West Virginia and Clemson, both Top 20 teams. The Terps' only win has come over Western Michigan. 1y 1 71 11 1 ij 1 " Floppy Disks " FAX Service " Resumes " Passport Photos " Office Supplies " Pick-Up & Delivery Open 24 Hours 540 E.
