It is noon, Thursday the 27th. You have just filled your plate with a very appetizing lunch and are about to dig in. Then, to make it perfect, the music starts. Members of the U-M Jazz Ensemble, recently returned from various summer jazz festivals in Europe, are playing just for you. Leave the humdrum atmosphere of McBurger behind and be part of Jazz at Noon: Thursday, September 27, North Campus Commons. They're Back! Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the MUG... Here they are-the student staff of Project Community, return- ing for a second tour of duty, committed to making the world safe for service- learning. They give new meaning to the phrase "thousand points of light" and you, too, will grow to love them. Remember that date: on Thursday, October 5 you can go "INTO THE STREETS" with S.E.R.V.E. as it sponsors the first U-M Campus Service Day. Spend the morning out in the community, both Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, help- ing people: you can play with preschool kids, clean up some places that need it, or do some painting. You will meet other active students and provide valu- able service to the commu- nity, all in one morning! In the afternoon, come to the "SERVICE OPPORTU- NITIES FAIR," your chance to meet representatives from approximately 50 community service agencies and social action groups that need volunteers. The Fair will be held in the Michigan Union Ballroom from 1-4 PM. Bring your friends and find a project that needs you to make it work. To register and be part of INTO THE STREETS, or to And out more about volun- teer opportunities in the area, please stop by the S.E.R.V.E. office, 2211 Michigan Union, or call 936-2437.
