Starting this season, no containers will be allowed in the stadium. Banned containers include coolers, bottles, bags and backpacks. Officials say that the reason for the overall ban on containers is because it would be impossible to check all of them for alcoholic beverages. There currently exists a Big Ten conference policy for alcohol bans only on conference games. Before this fall, Michigan was the only Big Ten school not to have such a standard for non-conference games. "We're the last one in the Big Ten to enact this policy," said Spoorts Information Director Bruce Madej. "In fact, we're the last ones in the state of Michigan." Before the policy was introduced, Michigan was the only Big Ten school not to have a carry-in ban for all football games. As for the state, all four of the professional sports teams, the Red Wings, Pistons, ions, and Tigers have the same ban on bringing containers into games. "This policy is directed at the alcohol problem at the University, not that we have a big one," said Will Perry, Assistant Director of Athletics. According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, football Saturdays average five to nine reported disturbances at the stadium. However, there are frequent instances of alcohol-related behavior that are not reported to security. "It's not acceptable behavior but out of 106,000 people it's not a bad number," said Ann Arbor Police Captain Robert Conn. "This policy tells us the direction that the University wants to take. That alcohol in excess and the sport is a concern." A flyer outlining the carry-in policy was enclosed with all season tickets but still, not all fans know about it. The athletic department will continue to educate the fans on the new rules. Monday Night Football announ- cer Dan Dierdorf played offensive p tackle on Bo. Schembechler's first. Wolverine team. The 1971 graduate was an All-American during his senior season, before moving on to an illustrious career with the St Louis Cardinals. Since retiring, Dierdorf has worked as a television analyst for both CBS and ABC. Dierdorf met with Kickoff Editor Steve Blonder on a Detroit visit celebrating the 20th anniversary of Monday Night Football. Question: What do you think about a No. 1 vs. No. 2 season-opener? Answer: It's not the way Bo wants to start the season. I think all coaches would like to open with Wichita State Teachers College... I wish we would have played Notre Dame while I was in school. It's the kind of ball game you get up for as a player. Q: What type of memories do you have of Bo? A: I played back at Michigan while . Bo was Bo, before he became an elder statesman. When I played for Bo he was just mean.... It came from when he was hired, the Free Press and The News each ran big headlines saying, "Bo Who?" Bo and I had a problem. He thought I should be smaller than I am. Suffice it to say we had a wide difference of opinion. But now Bo's changed. He and I agree on everything. Q: What impresses you the most at a Michigan game? A: I don't think there is anything better than being at a Michigan sporting event when everyone stands up to sing Hail to the Victors.' It only gets better when you get older. Q: How often do you make it back to Ann Arbor for football games? A: Rarely. I hadn't seen a Michigan football game in twelve to fifteen years until I went back a couple of years ago for the Notre Dame game. Normally, I would get some friends at home basketball gat Q: What do yoi players and coaches A: The best pt who's been arouni coach. I'm sure that the number one ana out of the air. Easie The difference i before becoming tk under a pressure unproven commodi Q: Would you t game? A: I much prefi with the college game on a Saturda night game for us h Q : How has th played?
