GROCERY Kroger's (various locations) Where else can you get Bananas, microwaveable rabbit parts, and lun- cheon meat at 3:00 a.m.? Plus "Let's go Farmer Jacking" doesn't quite cut it. Liberty) While other women's-clothing stores come and go, Jacobson's has maintained its standing as the best women's clothing store for all around selection. MEN'S CLOTHING Bivouac (330 S. State) The Biv wins once again - with Mark Keller closing up its doors, the competition has dwindled down to a handful of men's clothing stores in Ann Arbor. Continued from Page 18 Bud VanDeWege After receiving the Hustle Award at the women's basketball banquet only two weeks earlier, sophomore Barbie Locher had her scholarship yanked by VanDeWege so he could pass it along to an incoming recruit. Locher made the team as a walk-on the year before, and while by no means a star on the court, she in- spired her teammates with her enthusiasm and hustle. Loeher symbolized all that was right with a program which once again seems to have run amuck. With this year's smelly 5-13 Big Ten record, VanDeWege was unable and unwilling to successfully com- municate with his players. This is Michigan, Bud. Biggest Splash Women's swim coach Jim Richardson All Richardson did was guide his team to another Big Ten title. It's old hat by now. But instead of dumping water or champagne on him to celebrate their victory, the team dumped him in the water, fully clothed. Some thanks, hey Jim? Mr. Michigan Mark Messner He's big, he's huge, and he can play. Offensive lineman and captain of the football team, All-American Mark Messner has made his mark at Michigan, his brute force pushing away all who came near him. Mr. Clutch Rumeal Robinson Swish, Swish, Buzzer. Cham- pions. Biggest Wide to the rights, wide to the lefts Mike Gillette Now Mike Gillette has been a great kicker in Michigan football. But he missed at Notre Dame, which could have won the game. He also missed against Miami, which might have prevented Miami's successful comeback. Then he missed twice in the Rose Bowl. But what was worse than all the misses were the boos he received at Crisler Arena when introduced as part of the Rose Bowl champion squad. Biggest Shot Sean Higgins With the score tied against Illi- nois in semi-final action of the NCAA tournament, sophomore Sean Higgins skied for the rebound of a Terry Mills miss, and banged it off the glass to give Michigan the win and a spot in the championship game - all as time ran out. Best Personal Comeback Val Hall Women's basketball player Val Hall had the same knee injury as men's hoopster Kirk Taylor. She underwent major knee surgery to re- pair her torn anterior cruciate. She also quit the team to pursue a career in modeling. She rejoined the team, only to miss most of the first half of the season with an illness. But Hall cameback to become Michigan's starting center.
