For M ll )1 Youit wits on South Unvevrs w nen the Blue shined mrougin Now comes a motion picture caled Ihe Dream Team, in which we have four self-pronounced crazy men setting off on a series of crazy adventures for one crazy day and night in the self-pronounced crazy city of New York. This film is a character sketch of four extremely wacky and different mental patients. Since motion pictures tend to take issues of mental illness to an extreme, could we ex- pect four relatively "normal" mental patients as the centerpiece of our story? Of course not. Therefore, the writers of The Dream Team have squeezed out some outlandish per- sonalities from their imaginative minds, to make them purposely unbelievable. The main cast of the film has great comedy experience, and any one of the four could star alone in a lower budget comedy. Michael Keaton (Johnny Dangeroulsy, Bee- ilejuice) plays Billy Caulfield, a man prone to a violent temper and oc- casional irrationality. Billy, Henry, is Jack, and Albert are ali taken off the I grounds of the sanitaruim to go to a Yankees game with their doctor (Dennis Boutsikaris). Somewhere along the way, the doctor disappears and the four "crazies" must fend for themselves in the city until they can discover what happend to him. Of course in a story such as this, each patient's particular disability will get him in trouble. The film is dependent on cn of the :our characters remaining siricLIV in their confined roles throughout the entire picture, and each character does Just that. Boyle and Loyd are particularily outstanding in this quest oroviding numerou, laughs :during the course of their follies. Keaton s more difficult to discern as "crazy,' and therefore his character is often moody and angry, never falling into the same neat niche the others have. In other words, he's been bet- ter in the past. The Dream Team is ultimately harmed by overexpectation. With a cast of this caliber, it's easy to expect more in a comedy. But the film can also not be called a failure.- It serves its purpose in providing a somewhat entertaining and light- hearted film - although that's not a very difficult thing to do on this1 level. The story, which involves a police conspiracy, is more unbe- lievable than the characters, and it contributes in dragging the final product down. Craziness can be exhilarating (One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest) and it can be sensitive (Rain Man),j but it can also be fun, like Thel k~ \1.1 *1, 996-1500 100 South University f s TUCCI 11 s i i Dream Team.
