The Wolverines won 12-4 and 9-6 on Saturday at Fisher Stadium and followed suit with 12-6 and 6-4 victories on Sunday at EMU. "We didn't hit well and we didn't pitch well," Huron coach Roger Coryell said on Saturday. "Everything Michigan did seemed to work. They played well defensively and got some good pitching. Thank God we're playing tomorrow. If we had to wait another week to play I think I would probably shoot myself. " On both days, the Hurons, 7-8, were hurt by errors and by Michigan scoring outbursts. In Saturday's first contest, the Wolverines broke open a 4-1 game with an eight run fifth inning. Pitcher Ross Powell went 6 1/3 innings to get his first win of the season. "I felt all right," Powell said. "I started out bad because I needed to work up a sweat, I wasn't loose. There were some nice defensive plays behind me." In game two, Michigan countered the Hurons' three-run first inning with four runs of its own. It needed to score two runs in the sixth inning to ice the 7-6 contest. Jeff Tanderys earned his first victory of the season. Rightfielder Phil Price, whose streak of reaching base consecutively was stopped at 15 in the first game, went 4-4 in Saturday's second game with a homer, triple, and two singles. On Sunday, righthander Mike Grimes worked six innings to up his record to 1-1. Rightfielder Jim Durham socked a two-run homer to pace the Wolverine attack. In the second game, righthander Tim Lata increased his record to 3-0 and John Locker recorded his second save. Secondbaseman Matt Morse, who raised his average to .417 on a 6-7 day, started the game winning rally with a run-scoring double. "We played a little erratic today maybe it was because the conditions were so bad but I'm satisfied, " Michigan coach Bud Middaugh said. "There was some awful timely hitting. We just need to sharpen our pitching." Middaugh Continued from Page x. the individual said. We as players don't know what the facts are and until this investigation is over, we won't know." Individuals close to the team said the lack of publicity so far has kept the issue from becoming a major distraction, but members of the University administration said they think "the considerable future." issue will receive attention in the near Rumors from people close to the team that Middaugh has told his squad he would be fired this season remain unsubstantiated.
