Honor Students Who Excel in Cocurricular Activities Why? Because many students, who are leaders in cocurricular activities throughout the campus and community, give generously of their knowledge, time, energy and enthusiasm to projects ranging from student government to theater projects and from helping the homeless to educating their peers. And because- These committed students rarely receive any kind of formal acknowledgement or compensation for their efforts. Therefore, it is our responsibility as educators and our pleasure as members of the community they enrich, to reward them for their initiative and outstanding work. Who? Individual students and student orgarizations who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities, shown initiative and made significant contributions beyond the classroom to the University and community are eligible for the Student Recognition Awards. How? Pick up a nomination form from the CIC desk or the SODC office in the Union, the North Campus Commons Snack Bar or the Comprehensive Studies Program in 1018 Angell Hall. And remember- The deadline for entries is February 24, 1989; return nominations to the Michigan Union Student Organization Development Center. Honor Outstanding Seniors The Senior Leader Brunch is a time to celebrate and recognize dedicated students for all the hard work, real-world learning, successes and disappointments that go along with being actively involved on campus. It's the University's last chance to thank these departing students for their commitment and enthusiasm. The Brunch is by invitation only, and the invitations are given out based on the decision of the Selection Committee, which is made up of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The selection Committee decides based solely on the nomination forms you send in. Thank a deserving senior you know. Nominate them (or yourself) for an invitation to the Senior Leader Brunch. Nomination forms are available at the CIC desk in the Union, North Campus Commons, and the Student Alumni Council; they're due back by February 24. The Brunch is April 21. How about a student who is fabulous at scholarship, leadership, and/or service? Could this be you? Give hardworking students and faculty the credit they deserve, and nominate them (or you!) for an award given by the Michigan Association of Governing Boards of Colleges and Universities. This award is presented to distinguished faculty and students from each of the 15 public four-year institutions in Michigan. See? Somebody from U=M will win, so it might as well be that person you're thinking of. Nominate away! All you need to do is send his/her name and a brief description summarizing their accomplishments to Karen at the Michigan Union Student Organization Development Center, 2202 Michigan Union. Nominations are due by February 24! 60 What Are You, Anyway? Extoverted? Introverted? Sensing? Thinking? Judging? Perceiving? Find out at the Michigan Union Student Organization Development Center's minicourse on Leadership Styles. This 4-week class is designed for folks involved in student organizations who want to learn more about their own leadership style, and to understand and appreciate other styles. We'll use the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator personal- ity test, and also talk about situational leadership. The class is February 22 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Course fee is $10.00, and prereg- istration is necessary. Register as you would for any other minicourse by going to the Michigan Union Ticket Office. The class costs a mere dollar. It will be taught by Andy Willemsen, who makes high-quality period furniture and carved signs in Massachusetts when he isn't visiting Ann Arbor. He has graciously consented to do some workshops in the Student Woodshop. The class will be this Thursday, February 23, from 6-8pm. With this weather, who knows when Andy will come back to Ann Arbor?
