Great supporting cast of Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, and Bill Murray. 'SATURDAY ANIMAL CRACKERS (Victor Heerman, 1930) AUD A 7:00 Groucho is wild as Captain Spaulding, the African explorer (did someone call him snorer?), and the Marx Brothers are at their zaniest as they thwart a couple of art thieves by helping a young couple prove themselves innocent. Set in the home of an upperclass woman, played of course by Margaret Du- mont. DUCK SOUP (Leo McCarey, 1933) AUD A 8:45 Groucho is Rufus T. Firefly, and he has just been appointed the prime minister of Freedonia. Why? Because Margaret Dumont likes him! But the ambassador to a neighboring country doesn't, and it is up to his brothers to help out. MONKEY BUSINESS (Norman Z. McLeod, 1931) AUD A 10:10 The Marx Brothers are stow- aways on a transatlantic liner and bring waves of laughter along the way. Their four-part harmony imi- tation of Maurice Chevalier is a riot, and so is everything else on this ship of fools.. THE 21ST INTERNA- TIONAL TOURNEE OF ANIMATION (Various Anima- tors, 1988) Michigan Theater 5:30 & 7:45 See Friday's listing. MARRIED TO THE MOB (Jonathan Demme, 1988) Michigan Theater 9:50 Demme maintains his position as one of the most unique directors of the last few years with this tale of a woman (Michelle Pfeiffer) who is recently widowed when her mob- ster-hit-man-husband takes a bullet himself. THE STRANGER (Orson Welles, 1946) MLB 4 9:30 Orson Welles lives in a small New England town, and likes to tinker with the clock in the church's spire. Edward G. Robinson thinks Orson has bats in his belfry and does some investigating into his past. This film is clearly made in response to WWII and foresees the oncoming of the Cold War.
