While the Wolverines may not be up to your caliber, they are definitely ready to challenge the Big Ten tradition of the big two and little eight. An upper division finish could mean an invitation to either the National Invitational Tournament or the NCAA tourney. Michigan has never appeared in post- season play. However, this current Wolverine team may reverse that trend as it is mature enough to know how to compete, especially under pressure. Leading the team in experience is fifth-year senior, Lorea Feldman. Despite sitting out last year due to being academically ineligible, Feldman is still Michigan's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,260 points. "Lorea is as fine a shooter as I've ever seen, a clutch shooter," said head coach Bud VanDeWege. Michigan returns its last season's leading scorer in junior guard and tri-captain Tempie Brown. Finishing last season as seventh-highest scorer in the Big Ten, Brown was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. This year, she is a preseason choice for first-team All-Big Ten honors. "Tempie is a devasting outside shooter," said VanDeWege. "In the open court she is a real threat because she can put up the three-pointer, pull up for the jumper, and she can drive." Brown will move over to the lead guard position due to the loss of graduated senior Vonnie Thompson, who led the team in assists the past two seasons.
