LEARN THE BASICS OF WOODTURNING Vanguards for Change Enhancing leadership, com- munity, and personal devel- opment are the goals of the Residence Hall Government Leadership Conference, entitled, "Vanguards for Change," to be held this Saturday, October 2. The y conference, for Hall Gov- ernment officers, representa- tives, and their staff advisors, will consist of sessions on leadership topics including running effective meetings, conflict management, and ethics in student leadership. Dr. James Chaffers, U-M Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning, will be the keynote speaker. Chaffers, highly committed to commu- nity development and social responsibility, is the author of the essay "Diversity, Crea- tivity and the University," which has been cited as a model philosophical view of this important social issue. The Residence Hall Confer- ence, sponsored by the Michigan Union Student Organization Development Center, the Housing Divi- sion, and the Residence Halls Association, is open only to Residence Hall government members; however; many of the sessions offered will be available to a wider audience during February's campus- wide Leadership Conference.
