Linksters to Kentucky
for a different derby
By DAVID HYMAN
Lexington, Kentucky. The excitement and festivities begin and end
here the first week in May. The running of the Kentucky Derby, one of
America's great sporting events, is on Saturday, May seventh.
Most people do not associate Lexington with a golf tournament,
but this weekend, the men's golf team will be competing in the Ken-
tucky Intercollegiate.
Coming off a decent performance two weeks ago at the South
Florida Invitational, Michigan is hoping to perform better in this com-
petitive fifty-four hole tournament.
"It's a fairly strong field (15 teams)," said Coach Carras. "If we fin-
ish well, I'll be very happy because it's not a tournament where you
have a lot of weak teams."
Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern are other Big-Ten teams
competing this weekend besides Michigan. The University of Ken-
tucky, Louisville, Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky are some of
the other teams who will also be participating.
Michigan will have one change in its lineup this weekend. "We have
our No. 1 player (Scott Chipokas) with an arm injury (nerve damage in
his right arm), but Scott will play as he is probably still as good or
better than anybody else I could take," said Carras. "We're just hoping
that his arm doesn't give him trouble once we get there and he starts
playing."
