ARTS The Michigan Daily Monday, January 11, 1988 Page 7 WCBA By Todd Shanker Tonight at the Blind Pig, WCBN- FM disc jockey Brian Tomsic will host a colorful program of reggae films and videos. Featured are the classic reggae inspirations Rockers and Heartland. The films will be shown on a large video screen, in stereo, beginning at 9 p.m. All proceeds will benefit WCBN, the University's student run FM radio station. Rockers takes place in Jamaica's Shantytown and tells the tale of a Preggae musician named Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, who is the victim of a robbery. The film traces Horsemouth's vengeance and is T Film Fest loaded with killer, roots-conscious reggae from the likes of Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Jacob Miller and Inner Circle, Gregory Isaacs, Peter Tosh, Justin Hinds, and the Heptones. Heartland is a well-done documentary that covers in depth the powerful 1980 One Love Peace Concert in Jamaica. It includes stirring live performances from such reggae legends as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh (backed by thedincomparable Sly Dunbar and R ob bi e Shakespeare), Dennis Brown, and U- Roy, who will be making a rare Ann Arbor appearance at the Blind Pig on Tuesday, January 19th. Tonight's features mark the second in a three part series of the skanks to regg 1988 WCBN-FM Film Festival at the Blind Pig. Tomsic has organized the Festival, which showcased Urgh - A Musical War and The Decline of Western Civilization last week. Next Monday is New Orleans night, featuring clips of Professor Long Hair, the Neville Brothers, Queen Ida, Clifton Chenier, and more. A $3 donation is suggested, as all proceeds go to benefit WCBN, home of Jazz 'til Noon, Freeform, and other great alternative music shows. Fundraising season at the radio ~*';~station culminates with the Ninth Annual On-the-Air Fundraiser, ie beat February 11-14. And for more crucial reggae, check out Brian Tomsic's Rocker's Jamboree on Saturday nights from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on WCBN, 88.3 FM. Tonight's showcase is a great opportunity to check out some classic reggae videos and help WCBN-FM in the process. So let your Dreadlocks down and do some serious skanking at the Blind Pig tonight.
