"WE'RE NOT used to playing for third place," stated Broncos head coach Bill Wilkinson, whose team had a seven-game winning streak going into the second weekend of January followed by a current seven- game winless streak. "We do not handle the pressure situations that well," Wilkinson added. When I said earlier that I was going into every series expecting to gain a lot of gray hairs from our in- experience, I didn't realize how true that would be." The Broncos, coming off two ties at home against conference leader Lake Superior, are fueled by sopho- more center Paul Polillo, the leading scorer in the CCHA. Polillo has 48 points, including one goal and four assists in two games against Michi- gan last November. Defensively, the stalwart in the Bronco goal for the past three sea- sons has been junior Billy Horn. Horn, who has never had much suc- cess against the Wolverines, is wary of their talent. Michigan has come into its own as illustrated by five victories in the last six games, including its first sweep of arch-rival Michigan State since November 1980. In those vic- tories, the Wolverines received major support from their seniors. "I don't know if it was coinci- dence or not," said head coach Red Berenson after all five Friday night Michigan goals were scored by se- niors.
