Rebel Without a Cause, for all
of its hyperbolic melodrama, might
suggest ironically that there is a
cause but it's lost from the start; like
Holden Caulfield, Dean's character
discovers that you can't escape
suspicion and narrow-mindedness.
The only means to real freedom, and
its by-product, immortality, is
through death, as Mineo's child/man
demonstrates. Perhaps Dean had that
route in mind as he sped down the
California highway toward his death.

76-GUIDE is an anonymous peer phone counseling service sponsored by
Counseling Services. Applicants need to be enrolled students who are good
atworking with people. No previous counseling experience is necessary.
GUIDE workers are paid and work approximately 14 hours per week.
