I I -I t ---- --- --- .. I -Mark Shaiman 0 I I CAMPUS CINEMA FRIDAY DIAL M FOR MURDER (A. Hitchcock, 1954) MLB 3 7:00 Grace Kelly stars as the victim of a would-be murder who then becomes a murderess in one of the classic plot twists of all time. As fiendishly clever as any of Hitchcock's films. WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (Billy Wilder, 1957) MLB 3 9:00 Agatha Christie always translates well to film, but this is the best of all. Marlene Dietrich's screen pre- scence and Charles Laughton's out- standing performance add to this fas- cinating and mind-wrenching story. REAR WINDOW (A. Hitchcock, 1954) MLB 4 7:30 & 9:30 Jimmy Stewart is stuck in his apartment with a broken leg. With nothing else to do, he watches his neighbors across the courtyard and finds that a murder has been com- mitted. Grace Kelly helps him find the proof. A voyeur's fantasy that expresses every possible emotion. Classic Hitch. THE CANTERBURY TALES (Pier Paolo Pasolini, 1971) Nat' Sci 7:00 & 9:10 Only Chaucer could write them and only Pasolini could do them justice in a film version. The visual rendering of the middle ages is rich and the bawdiness of the tales is well depicted, so well in fact that it deserved an X rating. SUSPECT (Peter Yates, 1987) Michigan Theater 7:00 Dennis Quaid is the jury member who steps beyond his limits and gets personally involved in the trial. Cher is the 'defending attorney who reluctantly accepts his help. REPENTANCE (Tengiz Abuladze, 1984) Michigan Theater 9:20 From the Soviet Union comes this allegory about Stalin's dictator- ship that also comments upon contemporary Russian society. The plot is reminiscent of Hitchcock's The Trouble With Harry in which a dead body keeps disappearing. SATURDAY VIXEN (Russ Meyer, 1968) MLB 4 7:00 & 10:20 The second film of this list to be awarded an X rating is is pure camp. Our heroine takes on communism and almost everything else in sight. THUNDERCRACK (Curt McDowell, 1975) MLB 4 8:15 The title should clue you in to what this movie's about, so a capsual is hardly necessary, but the horny gorilla and the cucumber lady deserve note. QUADROPHENIA (Frank Roddam, 1979) Nat Sci 9:30 The Who goes to the movies and combines plot and music effectively in this story of Mods and Rockers in 1960's England. REPENTANCE (Tengiz Abuladze, 1984) Michigan Theater 5:15 & 9:45 See Friday's listing. PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES (John Hughes, 1987) Michigan Theater 8:00 Hughes finally gets away from teen comedy and the brat pack and does a pretty competent job of it. Steve Martin is on his way home for Thanksgiving but gets stuck traveling with John Candy, an obnoxious shower-curtain-ring sales rep. SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE (George Roy Hill, 1972) MLB 3 7:00 & 9:00 The Sandwich & ce Con ' Jason's offers a wide variety of gourmet sand- wiches, soups, muffins, and other baked goods along with Ann Arbor's widest selection of ice cream, tofuti and frozen yogurt. 215 S.
