The Michigan Daily-Monday, November 23, 1987- Page 5 Photo story by John Munson Photos by John Munson During every football game, airplanes towing banners which range from "Domino's Pizza Delivers" to "Will You Marry Me?" circle Michigan Stadium. "We've had over 100 marriage proposals and have a 100 percent success rate," said Gary West, owner of Gary's Banners, which operates five airplanes during every Wolverine home game. He said that approximately 10 to 15 percent of the messages are personals (top), and that anyone connected with the University of Michigan gets a special discount'off the usual $175 per flight rate. Co-owner Chip Wood, (above) spreads out the banners on the ground for the pilots to pick up with a hook at- tached to the tail of the airplane as they take-off. As soon as the hook catches, the pilot pulls into a steep, full- power climb (left) and heads for the stadium to spread the word to over 100,000 baseball fans. Regents request review of litigation WANT MOR E THAN A DESK JOB? (Coninued from Page 1) litigation - charges $175 per hour, including the time it takes him to drive to Ann Arbor from his Detroit office. Nielsen said he thought local lawyers could handle the case at a lower cost. John Ketelhut, the University at- torney who decided to hire legal counsel for the women, said last week that the University's decision stemmed from a campaign sponsored by the Affirmative Action Office to "Tell Someone" about sexual ha- rassment. Ketelhut declined to comment on Nielsen's request. The action, Ketelhut said, marks the first time the University has paid for legal representation of students. Man stabs six inside church FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A man attending a Roman Catholic Mass suddenly walked down the aisle brandishing a knife and stabbed at least six other worshippers before being wounded with his own knife when he was being subdued, police said. Julie Steiner, director of the Uni- versity's Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center, said reneging on the decision to represent the women - which she feared could happen as a result of the review - would send a "frightening message". to victims of sexual assault or ha- rassment. Such a decision, she said, would deter women from reporting harass- ment to the University officials. "We have a responsibility to represent these people," she said, adding that the University would not have de- cided to represent the women without believing they were innocent of the slander charge. But Regent Nielsen, calling the suit "a very simple matter," said, "We don't have any business being involved in legal matters of private individuals." Philip Power (D-Ann Arbor), speaking in favor of the review, said the University should set a policy on representing students because admin- istrators have set a precedent with this decision. Power predicted the University will increasingly find it- self representing students in similar situations. Daily staffer Lisa Pollak con- tributed to this story.
