I u I CAMPUS CINEMA FRIDAY THE 39 STEPS (Alfred Hitchcock, 1935) 7:00 p.m. MLB 3 The plot is very similar to North by Northwest. Robert Donat has Cary Grant's role, the one man who knows that a distinguished businessman is stealing State secrets. Donat's problems are complicated when the police think he's guilty of a murder. THE LADY VANISHES (Alfred Hitchcock, 1938) 8:30 p.m. MLB 3 Hitchcock is full of surprises from beginning to end. The hilarious tale of a woman disappearing, while on a European train. What's unusual is that no one notices that she's missing, except for an unusual British secret agent (no relation to 007). LIFEBOAT (Alfred Hitchcock, 1944) 7:30 p.iyp. Nat Sci An Allied ship is sunk in a WWII battle and a half-dozen people are stuck on a lifeboat without food or water. A Nazi floats up. Hitchcock gives us a unique look at what we consider "The Enemy" as they decide what to do with the POW. I CONFESS (Alfred Hitchcock, 1953) 9:30 p.m. Nat Sci Montgomery Clift is a priest who hears an unusual vow of confession. He must decide between the justice system and the Church. With.Karl Malden and Anne Baxter. WALKABOUT (Nicholas Roeg, 1972) 7:00 p.m. MLB 4 Two Australian children are stranded in the Outback. The situation gives them an opportunity to use their cunning to survive, and a place to discover their sexuality. IF (Lindsay Anderson, 1968) 9:00 p.m. MLB 4 Anderson takes a look at life in a repressive British boarding school for boys. A strong argument against authoritarianism. SATURDAY KOYAANISQATSI LIVE! (Geoffrey Reggio, 1983) 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. Mich Philip Glass brings his ensemble. to Ann Arbor to take the ultimate cinematic experience even further by conducting a live accompaniment to Reggio's masterpiece of cinematography. The film has no plot or dialogue, but is a beautiful look at today's world and technology. It is full of sped-up images and magnificent settings, choreographed to one of the most intricate soundtracks of all-time. JEZEBEL (William Wyler, 1938) 7:30 p.m. Nat Sci Wyler was one of Hollywood's leaders in the '30s and '40s, which allowed him to work with extraordinary casts. Jezebel was no exception. Bette Davis earned an Oscar for her performance as a vengeful Southern Belle caught between a rich banker (Henry Fonda) and a kind geltleman (George Brent). ALL ABOUT EVE (Joseph Mankiewicz, 1950) 9:30 p.m. Nat Sci Took home seven Oscars in 1950, including Best Picture. Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, Marilyn Monroe, and George Sanders star in the tale of an actress "at the top" (Davis), and those who strive to get there. HAROLD AND MAUDE (Hal Ashby, 1972) 7:00 and 9:30 p.m. MLB 4 Cult classic about a teenage boy obsessed with death who falls in love with an 80 year-old woman with lust for life. With music by Yosef Islam (Cat Stevens). FASTER PUSSYCAT, KILL! KILL! (Russ Meyer, 1966) 7:00 p.m. MLB 3 Violence, violence, and more violence. Shocking in 1966, and still shocking today. The story involves three furies incognito (as go-go dancers). Everyone runs around killing people. I guess that makes it a cult classic. BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (Russ Meter, 1970) 9:00 p.m. MLB 4 A rare case where the sequel is better than the original. Roger (Thumbs Up) Ebert helped co-write the screenplay detailing a rock trio caught up in the wrong crowd. Hailed by some as the most exploitative film of all-time. SUNDAY THE MAD ADVENTURES OF RABBI JACOB (Gerard Oury, 1974) 7:00 p.m. MLB 3 Louis de Funes stars as a Catholic factory owner. For some reason, everyone is after him, including the police and a group of Arab terrorists. He travels in disguise as an American Rabbi.
