Liberty St. Is it a glorified deli? A cafeteria gone amuck? Whatever it is, Afternoon Delight is one of Ann Arbor's most unique restaurants. Whether they're serving muffins and made-to-order omelets or create- your-own sandwiches, Afternoon Delight does it with a feeling of fun. Guaranteed to make you smile. $5 to $10. Angelo's Lunch: 1100 Catherine St. If you have an eight o'clock class, Angelo's is worth getting up at 6:30 for. It would be just another place to get eggs or pancakes, if it weren't for Angelo's homemade breads. They've got an assortment of it, but the raisin bread is the best. $5. Ariel: 330 Maynard St. If you're into Middle Eastern food, then Ariel's has it all. From falafels to chipatis to something called a complete protein sandwich with alfalfa sprouts, Ariel's serves it. Go for lunch and remember to ask for extra humus. $3 to $5. The Bagel Factory: 1306 S. University St. The factory has the best bagels in Ann Arbor even though it is one of the only bagel stores in Ann Arbor. The experimentals are great and .the sandwiches are delicious, but what really makes the place stand out are the fragels - deep fried cinnamon and sugar covered bagels. Perfect student food. $5 to $7. Bill's Coffee Cup: 201 E. Liberty St. This place is a real greasy spoon diner for sure. The without getting munchies from the Brown Jug. So the food is not so hot, but the atmosphere is great. Pretty reasonably priced. The service is horrible, but that's all part of the charm. $5 to $10. Count of Antipasto/Good Time Charley's Village Bar and Grill: 1140,S. University St. Believe it or not, Charley's does have some of the best Italian food around. The chicken dishes are best and the portions are generous. $5 to $10. Cottage Inn: 512 E. Williams St. It's on the best place to take a date list for sure. Really fine Italian food at very reasonable prices. The Mediterranean pizza is a must-try as well, but on weekends the wait can be daunting. $10 to $12. Donburi: 215 S. State St. This restaurant is one hot place with some of the best oyako, gyoza and teriyaki around. Not only is it delicious but it's cheap, too. Check it out for sure. $5 to $7. Drake's Sandwich Shop: 709 N. University St. Walking through the front door of Drake's is like taking a sentimental journey back to the '20s, but why not? The decor of the restaurant hasn't changed since then. Drake's offers a variety of sandwiches, cakes, deserts, and malted milk shakes and also has an large assortment of candies from gummy bears to Droste's chocolate. Don't forget to try the specialty - homemade limeade. And don't forget at Drake's you have to fill out your own orders and pick up your food at the counter. $3 to $5. Frank's: 334 Maynard St. Greek restaurant? Well, I don't know about that. What I do know about, though, is that Frank's has the best French toast in town, and pretty good eggs as well as a pleasant atmosphere. One of the few places you never feel uncomfortable being alone. $5 to $7. The Full Moon: 207 S. Main St. Forget about that overcrowded bar part. The Full Moon has great Mexican food. Even though it may be a little pricey for a student-budgeted lunch, it's sill worth saving up for. $7 to $10. The Gandy Dancer: 401 Depot St. Looking for a seafood restaurant where passing trains are a common diversion? Look no further, the Gandy Dancer fits the bill. Located in the old Ann Arbor train depot - a historic landmark - the Gandy Dancer honor's its past by maintaining its original appearance and function as much as possible. The food is as delicious as the restaurant's atmosphere is charming. $10 to $15. Grandma Lee's: At the corner of Liberty and Forth Streets and Pantree of Ann Arbor: 330 E. Liberty St. These are two of the only 24 hour hot spots in town. Take advantage of them. Pantree has the best nachos in town, I'm convinced. Though expensive, Pantree is a great place to go at four in the morning. Grandma Lee's just opened up this past year and will definitely succeed because they never close. Grandma Lee's has a much more relaxed and pleasant atmosphere than the Pantree. Try their brownies. $5 to $10. Half-way Inn: East Quad - rangle. Another great breakfast spot. This University "cafeteria" is a far cry from the conventional. The Half-way has great eggs and turkey sandwiches and you can even use your meal card. It also has an excellent jukebox and great people watching. $2 to $5. House of Sandwich: 209 S. Fourth. Inexpensive, delicious, great service. How could you go wrong? A really good place for breakfast. Hur's Campus Cafe: At the corner of Williams and Thompson Streets. Why this place isn't packed is beyond me. It has amazing Korean food and fabulous vegeterian and Korean steak subs. $3 to $5. Joanne's Food: At the corner of State and Packard Streets. The name says it all. Food offers everything from falafels to $1.99 breakfast specials. $2 to $5. Krazy Jim Blimpy Bur - gers: 551 S. Division St. Voted the best burger in town for the past five years in the Daily's Best of Ann Arbor poll, Blimpy Burgers is sure to please even the most picky burger fans. The burgers come in a variety of sizes and with a choice of many different toppings and buns. Remember, no meal at Blimpy Burgers would be complete without an order of fried mushroom caps. $5. Metzger's Black Forest Inn: 203 E. Washington St. This German-American restaurant is the oldest in Ann Arbor, and if age is any indication of the quality of a restaurant, the people at Metzger's have got to be doing something right. The restaurant serves up German specialties like sauerbraten and Beef rouladen and American cuisine like meatloaf. But go just to check out the atmosphere; you'll feel like you're in Europe. $10 to $15. Middle Kingdom: 332 S. Main St. A fantastic place to take mom and dad. It's not the best Chinese food in the country but it does have some lucious sze-chuan. Service is top-notch too. .$10 to Pizza Bob's: 814 S. State St. This Ann Arbor institution doesn't look like one. Pizza Bob's is only 7 ft. wide, and you feel like you're eating in the cook's lap. But, nonetheless what the cook is celebrate. The restaurant grants the "birthdayee" a free diner. Great special, huh? Well, if that's not enough to get you down there, maybe the food will. If you're into anything that swims, Real Seafood's got and makes it good. $10 to $15. Red Hot Lovers: 629 E. University St. and Le Dog: 410 Liberty St. Red Hots and Le dog are the hot dog champions of Ann Arbor. Hots specializes in a myriad of toppings and cheap refills on pop.
