early Bauhaus, which may be giving
them too much.
Probably the worst feature of this
band is that the music and the lyrics
seldom mix. They seem to clash
constantly, causing the majority of
the album to be most irritating. By
"themselves, both are effective. The
lyrics are cutting and thought
provoking, and the music i s
anything from pretty and melodic to
harsh. But together, they just don't
mix.
The music seems to almost
weave a nest for the lyrics to rest in,
but vocalist Tom Laskin in-
frequently puts them there. The only
real exception to this chaos is a tight
little tune called "The Glory Years,"
whose source is unknown. T he
music was written by the band, but
the lyrics are, according to them,
"traditional." It's an ironic song
asking the whereabouts of a number
of John Does, one of whom is
"selling insurance in Miami" and
another who is "fooling around with

19 year olds... and a little cocaine on
the side." It is definitely the cream
of this LPs crop, yet, sadly, the only
enjoyable song on the album. The
rest is nothing but non-regulated
noise.

Jones comes off as an earnest, but

The heroes of his songs are
mostly the typical hard-country
