The Michigan Daily - Wednesday, April 22, 1987 - Pagel17 Leafs dump Wings, 4-2 DETROIT (AP) - Toronto's Rick Vaive triggered a three-goal second period last night and the Maple Leafs skated to a 4-2 NHL vicotry over the Detroit Red Wings in the first game of the Norris Division finals. Ken Wregget, the red hot goalie who went all the way in the Maple Leafs' six-game victory over St. Louis in the Norris semifinals handled 34 shots. The Maple Leafs, who held a 5- 2-1 advantage over the Red Wings during the regular season, fired 29 shots at two Detroit netminders. After the Pirates narrowed the Mets' lead to 7-6 in the eighth inning, New York scored twice more in the ninth before Pittsburgh ended the inning with a triple play.
