The next time people pay money to enter Michigan Stadium, Notre Dame will be wearing white, not Chris Zurbrugg, Andree McIntyre, and the rest of the halved Michigan squad that defeated the Blue 20-17 Saturday. "It was a great game. Michigan won," said head coach Bo Schem- bechler as if the game was real. "What else do you want to know?" C'mon, coach, we know that you know what we want to know. WHO'S GOING .to start at 'quarterback? Will it be one of the two young upstarts with the quick feet and the single digit numbers on their jerseys? Or, will it be the experienced fifth-year senior who's name sounds like that of an Austrian tennis champion? One of the upstarts, Michael Summer Jobs Available " All Office Skills Needed " Your Choice of Location in Detroit Metro Area " Work as Much as You Want Where You Want " No Fees Scott Group, Inc. Service With a Personal Touch 736 S. Washington Royal Oak 542-9232 Taylor, broke his left (non- throwing) hand in the third quarter, but it should be mended by fall. The redshirt sophomore completed three of four passes for 23 yards. He connected with tight end Jeff Brown for a five-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give the White a 10-3 lead. Zurbrugg hit on eight of 17 passes for 85 yards, including a 32- yarder to Olatide Ogunfiditimi for the winning score in the fourth quarter. But Zurbrugg also failed to take his team into the end zone after the White had a first down inside the Blue's five-yard line in the third quarter. Demetrius Brown, another redshirt sophomore, completed 12 of 23 for 187 yards and worked nearly the whole game for the Blue. Most impressively, he passed and ran his team to a game-tying touchdown with just under a minute left in the first half. His five-yard pass to Chris Calloway capped that scoring drive. SO, COACH, have you de- cided yet? "I may announce who it is five. minutes before the kickoff," he said. "I've done that before. I did it with Rick Leach." Schembechler then said that Jamie Morris, who rushed for 60 yards on 16 carries for the White, is far and away his best running back. Okay, but what about this Tracy Williams character? The six-foot, 200-plus pound fullback/tailback ran for 88 yards on eight carries. His 38-yard run set up Zurbrugg's winning touchdown pass, and he returned two kickoffs for 64 and 20 yards apiece. Well coach, does that performance put him ahead of Tony Boles and Allen Jefferson? Is he the guy? "Any one of the three could have been the guy," Schembechler said. "It just happened to be Tracy." "All three of them are good backs, but don't get me wrong, they're not ready yet. It's just a matter of time. I don't know who's going to be playing the most. Tracy Williams was not a surprise for those of you who thought we didn't know he could run." BOLES collected 54 yards on 10 carries to lead the Blue backs. The 6-2 sophomore's 15-yard TD run put the Blue ahead 17-13 early in the fourth quarter. On that play, Boles dipped inside and then sprinted left to avoid the defense. Jarrod Bunch and Jefferson rushed for 32 and 10 yards, respectively for the Blue. Of the remaining White backs, Leroy Hoard and Phil Webb each carried eight times for 34 and 22 yards, respectively. The White rushed for a total of 210 yards in the game. Blue receiver Calloway also played well. The sophomore grabbed six of Brown's passes for 108 yards. Calloway was the only one of Schembechler's top four receivers to play in the game. JU NIO R John Kolesar re- injured his collarbone earlier this spring and sophomore Greg McMurtry was in Columbus with the baseball team. Tripp Welbourne will join the team next fall when he starts school. Brent White and McIntyre headed the White defense. White collected eight solo tackles and four assists and McIntyre had five solos and four assists. The Blue defense was led by J.J. Grant with 12 solos and one assist. Mark Messner and Anthony Mitchell chipped in with seven and one, and five and three respectively. The game was more of a show for the estimated 20,000 sun bathers who went to Michigan Stadium. The deficiencies that Schembechler discovered this spring were not mended in the spring game. "If I had to start a (real) game next week, I wouldn't know who to start at some positions. That's the problem. That's what I'm concerned about."
