CONSIDER A CAREER
IN THE INFORMATION PROFESSION
Our information-based society will continue to expand and offer excellent career opportunities for
those seeking diverse, challenging, and interesting professional positions. College graduates from
the humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences are equally prepared to pursue studies in the
information profession.
The Library Science Program at Wayne State University provides full preparation for an informa-
tion service career. Entering students possessing a bachelor's degree can complete the Program in
12 months in full-time status. Part-time study, which includes evening, weekend and short-course
offerings, is also possible. Classes are scheduled to accommodate the working, mature student who
must work full-time while pursuing his or her studies. Upon completion of study, the Master of
Science in Library Science (M.S.L.S.) degree is awarded.
There is a growing shortage of graduates in academic, archival, corporate, school, government and
public libraries. Wayne State University graduates receive offers to work as information specialists,
school-media specialists, children librarians, reference librarians, data base managers, catalogers,
college and university librarians, government documents librarians, medical librarians, and record
managers, to name a few. A graduate degree is required for professional appointments in most
information environments.
To assist students in their studies in the Library Science Program, Wayne State University has ar-
ranged a variety of assistance programs for its students. Many of our students work part-time as
library interns, earning a salary while gaining valuable experience. Scholarships and other financial
aid are also available.
