Woolridge, fouled by Sidney Green on an inbounds play, made the first of two free throws, breaking a 112-112 tie. Piston guard Joe Dumars, who forced the 112-112 tie with a leaning jumper with six seconds left, missed a baseline jump shot at the buzzer. BUCK WILLIAMS made one of two free throws, forcing a 110- 110 tie with 1:10 left. Williams then rebounded a miss by Detroit rookie Dennis Rodman and Nets guard Leon Wood made an 18-foot jump shot for a 112-110 lead with 20 seconds to play. Adrian Dantley scored 30 points to lead the Pistons. Dumars added 18 points. Wood scored five points and Ben Coleman added four to lead the Nets on an 11-4 surge that pulled them from a 102-96 deficit to a 107-106 lead with 2:55 left in the fourth quarter., Detroit led 63-57 at halftime. The Nets played without center Mike Gminski, who is idled by back spasms. New Jersey has won five of its last seven games. 76ers109,. awk, 107 PHILADELPHIA (AP)- Charles Barkley scored 34 points and made a crucial three-point play with 42 seconds to go as the undermanned Philadelphia 76ers rallied to defeat Atlanta 109-107 last night and end the Hawks' 11- game winning streak, longest in the NBA this season. The 76ers trailed 105-96 with 3:46 to play, then scored 13 straight points as the Hawks turned the ball over five consecutive times. AFTER Barkley's three-point play, Spud Webb's driving layup brought Atlanta within 109-107 with 33 seconds left. The Hawks had one more chance to tie but Webb missed a 15-footer with three seconds remaining. Philadelphia, already without injured Julius Erving and Cliff Robinson, lost guard Maurice Cheeks, who dislocated the middle finger of his left hand with 10:54 remaining in the first quarter. Former Michigan center Tim McCormick added 21 points and Roy Hinson 15 for Philadelphia while Dominique Wilkins had 37 and Kevin Willis 12 for the Hawks. Celtics 120, Bucks 102 BOSTON (AP)- Larry Bird scored 30 points and the Boston Celtics used free throws and a 40- point third quarter to break open a close NBA game and beat the Milwaukee Bucks 120-102 last night. With the score tied for the 14th time 49-49, Bird's 15-foot jumper with 49 seconds left in the first half gave Boston the lead for good. He then made three consecutive free throws before Kevin McHale added one for the Celtics. BOSTON led 55-51 at halftime, then scored the first eight points of the third quarter , four by Dennis Johnson. The Celtics outscored the Bucks 21-8 in the first 6:32 of the second half-11 on foul shots-to take a 76-59 lead. Bucks coach Don Nelson got two technical fouls in that span and guard John Lucas one. Milwaukee cut the lead to 82-71 streak but Danny Ainge led a 13-4 Boston run with eight points as the margin grew to 95-75 going into the fourth quarter. In the third period, Ainge had 11 of his 18 points, McHale 10 of his 23 and Bird 10. Johnson finished with 19. THE BUCKS, who beat Boston 123-115 Tuesday night in Milwaukee, were led by Terry Cummings with 24 points, Lucas with 22 and Jack Sikma and Ricky Pierce with 16 each. Nuggets 104, Cavs 100 RICHFIELD, Ohio (AP)-Alex English scored 30 points, 18 in the second half, and Darrell Walker contributed 29 last night as the Denver Nuggets held off the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-100. The victory was the Nuggets' second straight on the road after seven consecutive road losses. Cleveland has lost eight of its last 10 games. English scored 12 points in the third period to help Denver move from a 51-51 halftime tie to an 84- 76 lead after three quarters. The Nuggets expanded the lead to 10 points four times in the fourth quarter, the last at 98-88 on Lafayette Lever's driving layup with six minutes to play. Cleveland got within 103-100 on a pair of Brad Daugherty free throws with 1:19 remaining and had a chance to move closer following a Denver turnover with 40 seconds left. THANKS DELTS!
