On March 17-18, the campus will vote on two questions about PIRGIM. Both questions look like they support PIRGIM. But only one will save PIRGIM. The other will kill it. The save-PIRGIM question is Proposal B. Nearly 3000 students signed petitions to put it on the ballot to save PIRGIM. The kill-PIRGIM question is Proposal C. It was put on the ballot by PIRGIM opponents to deceive PIRGIM supporters into voting to kill PIRGIM. 4 A 4 Proposal B Saves PIRGIM: Proposal B asks, should PIRGIM be funded by a $1.25 fee which would be refunded to students who don't wish to pay it? Without the resources from this type of fee, PIRGIM will not be able to continue its work at U-M-- work that includes women's safety/ SAFEWALK, toxic waste cleanup, and. Proposal C Kills PIRGIM: Proposal C proposes a "positive checkoff' system, which is like a bucket drive in the registration line. Five PIRGIM chapters in Michigan have had positive checkoffs; all five have died. In fact, a national study by a college administrator shows that over 50 percent of all PIRGs with positive checkoffs die within three years. Even PIRGIM's opponents admit that PIRGIM would die at U-M with a positive checkoff. .4 4 fighting world hunger. PIRGIM will die. Without the fee, So Don't Be Deceived.
