"He's not big, he's not strong, and he's not quick, and he has just scored a ton of points," said Knight. "It's hard for me to imagine how a kid like that can score as many points as he does." Frieder believes Alford's supporting cast makes Indiana difficult to defense. "We can stop one of them, but we can't stop five of them," the seventh-year coach said. "We've got (Gary) Grant. He can stop Alford. He's done it before. But if he does, (Keith) Smart will get 30 and (Daryl) Thomas will get 50." Smart, a 6-1 junior averaging THE L] MICHIGAN (9-5, 1-2) Ht. Frieder is not surprised that Knight has changed his tune on the issue. "Bob Knight doesn't like to lose," Frieder said. "If that means he needs to bring in junior college players, he will. If it means he needs transfers, he'll get them. He'll run guys in and out of there. Say what you will about him, he always wins." Smart, who usually feeds the ball to Alford, is capable of reversing roles, as evidenced by his 31 point performance against Ohio State. "Teams often double-team, and sometimes triple-team Steve," Smart said. "When that happens, he'll just keep giving me the ball." Alford and Smart will both give the ball to their forward line against Michigan, as the Hoosiers hold both height and experience advantages in the frontcourt. Center Dean Garrett, a 6-10 junior, averages 9.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Six-foot, seven- inch senior forward Daryl Thomas (14.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg) and 6-6 sophomore forward Rick Calloway (14.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg) should give Indiana a decided edge on the boards. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN. Tired of those boring work study jobs or looking for an exciting new one? Then apply for a work study INEUPS INDIANA (11-1, Ht.
