"To stop him, it had to be a team effort," said Michigan center Loy Vaught. "We had to surround him with two or three men. I was surprised how well he handled the pressure. That's why he's the best player in college basketball." THE ATLANTA Tipoff Club yesterday agreed with Vaught's assessment, naming Robinson the winner of the 1987 Naismith Trophy. The award is equivalent to college football's Heisman Trophy. Robinson, however, was not overwhelmed by the honor. "I don't place a lot of emphasis on awards," he said. "I'd be a heck of a lot happier if Danny Manning had won it, and we (the Midshipmen) were going to the second round." To celebrate the Wolverines' trip to the second round, where they will face North Carolina, Michigan's Vaught nearly tore down the south-end rim at the Coliseum with two seconds left in the game. The amused sellout crowd of 11,232 had to wait about 10 minutes while a crew attempted to fix the damage. Admiral-ly performed MICHIGAN (97)....
