The Michigan Daily - Friday, October 31, 1986 -Page 13 Wolverine icers By SCOTT SHAFFER Come on baby, light myfire. The time to hesitate is through for the Wolverines. There's no time to wallow in the imediocrity of the CCHA. THIS WEEKEND the hockey team travels to Chicago for a two-game series with the Illinois-Chicago Flames at the UIC Pavilion. "We haven't won on the road yet this year and it'd important for us to do that," said Wolverine head coach Red Berenson. "We've got to come back with a win." Berenson's team is 2-4 and tied for fifth place in the CCHA with the Flames, whose 4-2 record includes two non- conference wins. He heads into the Windy City with one win in four tries at the Pavilion over the last two seasons. THUS FAR, the Wolverines have been getting strong goaltending from the freshman duo of Glen Neary (4.21 goals against average) and Warren Sharples (4.33), who figure to play one game each, as they have all season. And while the power play and penalty killing units have been good, the offense has been a little sluggish. In an effort to light a fire under his forwards, Berenson has shuffled around his lines for UIC. The team's leading scorer, Brad Jones, (7 goals, 9 assists, 16 points) has been moved to left wing where he will skate with Todd Brost (0,7-7) and Billy Powers (1,1-2). Berenson is hoping that Jones' skill in setting up goals (his 101 career assists are sixth on Michigan's all- time list) will mean more goals from Brost and Powers. Jones' former linemate, Brad look to McCaughey (3,9-12) will play right wing on a line with Mike Moes and Bryan Deasley, while John Bjorkman (2,0-2) who returned to the lineup three games ago after missing most of last year with mono, will center a line with Bruce Macnab and Jeff Urban. THESE NEW lines will debut against an Illinois-Chicago team that is coming off their best series of the season. The Flames grounded Air Force twice last weekend as forward Paul Pulis (4,2-6) scored a hat trick in the first game. Despite the hat trick, Pulis is only sixth on the team in scoring. Rob Klenk (5,7- 12) is the squad's leading scorer, followed closely by Jeff Nelson, who led the team in scoring last year, and Paul Tory. "We've been scoring a lot of goals but we've also been giving them up a lot lately. We don't want to get in any more douse Flames shootouts," said Rich Blakey, an assistant coach under Val Belmonte. Trying to keep the Flames out of a shootout will be goalie Jim Hickey. According to Blakey, Hickey (5.31) will definitely start Friday's game and possibly Saturday's, depending on his performance. Should Hickey fail on Friday, Dave DePinto (5.50) will take over in the nets Saturday. Berenson, who labels the Flames as a "big, strong team", said yesterday: "Friday's game is all-important. We must get our game together and establish our presence early."
