Wolverine defense ready to
dam up Beavers' air attack

(Continued from Page 1)
Moeller. "They have an uncanny
way of running the ball at people"
because you're not expecting it.
And because they do throw the ball
and they have the ability to make
the big plays, if you're not sharp,
they can put points on the board."
THE COACHES' concerns
reflect the performance of the
Michigan defense in last week's
24-23 victory over Notre Dame.
The Wolverines yielded 455
yards and forced no punts in the
game. For a unit that was the
NCAA's most efficient in 1985, it
was a disappointing
performance.
"They aren't going to live up to

the billing starting off this year
that they had last year," Moeller
said. "But they aren't going to be
down because we're not going to
let them be down."
To remedy the situation,
Michigan will start Carlitos
Bostic at outside linebacker in
place of Steve Thibert. The
Wolverines are hoping to add
some quickness to the line after
failing to record a sack at Notre
Dame.
STRONG safety Doug Mallory
will not see action tomorrow. The
senior suffered a badly bruised
left thigh Saturday and swelling
had built up in his knee. His

return will be on a week-to-week
basis.
On the Beavers'.defense, the
secondary is the lone strong point.
All-Pac-10 cornerback Lavance
Northington led the conference;
with seven interceptions in 1985.
Two of those keyed the triumph in
Washington. But a corps of what
Kragthorpe described as
questionable linebackers give
Michigan plenty of avenues for
attack.
With the Wolverines'
collection of offensive weapons, a
victory in Schembechler's 200th
game at Michigan shouldn't,
stump anyone.
