Kleine, at 6-9, 270 pounds, is the anchor up front, but he will get plenty of help from Robert Banks, who was moved up to tackle from linebacker to add some quickness. The kicking game could be the biggest plus with John Carney back. The place kicker nearly beat Michigan himself last year with four field goals. Notre Dame, though, has its share of minuses, most of them on offense. The questionable position is at tailback. Both the Francisco brothers - D'Juan and Hiawatha - are out with injuries, which leaves the duties up to Mark Green, a converted flanker. THE CRITICAL test for the offense will be for the four new linemen, who must not only gain experience fast, they must learn the complicated Holtz blocking patterns. For the Michigan coaches, the problem with the '86 Irish is not knowing the players - they knocked heads with Michigan a year ago. Schembechler and his crew don't know exactly what to expect from Holtz. "I'm more concerned with what to expect from their staff offensively and defensively," Schembechler said. "There are a lot of unknowns, so we have to be able to make adjustments quickly." "Their ability to make the big play scares me more than anything," said assistant head coach Gary Moeller. "Basically, we're going to have tosmake adjustments from the first series until halftime." The Wolverines are all set for the game.nAll but one starting spat have been determined. The last open spot is at left outside linebacker where Dieter Heren and Tim Schulte still battle. Pat Moons will be the starting kicker. That's it for the pre-game show. Picking Michigan to beat Notre Dame, he said, "They have a great coach and have a lot of experience in Jimmy Harbaugh and Jamie Morris. Their defense is one of the toughest in the nation."
