The Michigan Doily

Around the Big Ten-

Michigan St. at
Arizona St. Game time:
10:10 p.m. EDT
Lorenzo White's run for the
Heisman Trophy begins in Sun
Devil Stadium. In addition to the
All-American White, Spartan
fortunes rest on the arm of senior
quarterback Dave Yarema. ASU
boasts a senior quarterback of its
own, Jeff Van Raaphorst, who has
two consecutive 2,000 yard
passing seasons to his credit.
Ohio ® St. at
Washington:
Game time 2:40 p.m.
- EDT
The 0-1 Buckeyes expect to
come out strong against Pac Ten
power Washington. "Washington

is big, good, talented, and and
well coached," said OSU coach
Earle Bruce. "We have the
makings of a good team, and I
think you'll see an improved
team in Seattle."
The Huskies, in this their
season opener, will rely heavily
on fullback Rick Fenney, who
last year led the team in rushing.
Iowa St. at Iowa:
Game time 12:40 p.m.
EDT
This intrastate rivalry marks
the season opener for both teams,
and finds Hawkeye head coach
Haden Fry struggling to replace
the departed Chuck Long, Ronnie
Harmon, and "Larry
Station."This will be the most

inexperienced team I have ever
had at Iowa," he said. The
Cyclones, led by quarterback
Alex Espinoza, are attempting to
avenge last season's 57-3
thrashing in Ames.
Around the Big Ten was
compiled by Daily
sportswriter Jim Downey.
