The fast will be run through churches, sorrorities and fraternities, residence halls, and private homes. Last year, the fast raised more than $5,000, according to Sirri Striar, a member of the 'Immittee and liason for OXFAM America for World Harvest, a Boston-based charity group. The ,oal of both groups is to educate people about hunger hrough personal experience, Striar said. Donated food will go to the Ypsilanti Resource Center. Larry Hunter, Director of the Center and ,n Ann Arbor city councilmember, said food donated will be distributed in Ypsilanti, where one-third of Washtenaw County's poor population lives. According to Jean Demeter, a spokeswoman at Winston's management company, Winston began his charity involvement two years ago by inviting local charity groups to set up booths at his concerts. Since February, a booth has been operated at every one of his concerts. On the average, several barrels of dry food goods are collected at each concert, Demeter said. Winston performs about 100 concerts a year, Demeter said. Winston's music is inspired by blues, rock, R & B, and jazz. His first solo piano album, "Ballads and Blues," was recorded in 1972.
