"It's always good to sweep a doubleheader because we always struggle with that," said Michigan head coach Carol Hutchins. "We split more often than we care to." FOR A SHORT while it looked like the Wolverines would have to settle for a split. In the first game after Michigan scored two runs in the second on a two-out, two-run single by freshman shortstop Mary Ann Daviera, the Falcons came back with three runs off of Michigan starter Michelle Bolster in the third. Bowling Green put together four singles to account for their scoring. "Michelle lost her confidence," said Hutchins. "You could just tell." The Wolverines came right back however, with two runs of their own the bottom of the frame. Bolster helped her own cause by tripling home Vicki Morrow who had singled and rode home on Daviera's line drive single, which proved to be the game- winner. BOLSTER settled down and did not allow a hit the rest of the way, picking up her sixth win against three defeats. Michigan added an insurance run in the fifth when Daviera knocked in her fourth run of the game with her third single in three at-bats. "She came through in a clutch situation each time," said a pleased Hutchins. "She is really starting to swing the bat. The more she plays, the better she gets." The Wolverines collected 10 hits off of Bowling Green loser Vicki Miwa. Another freshman, Pam Wright, helped pace the attack, going two-for- three and scoring two runs. IN THE second game it was all Michigan. The Wolverines erupted for seven runs in the second inning. "Bowling Green is not that bad a team," noted Hutchins. "We just went right at them, and we were real aggressive." Michigan quickly loaded the bases in the second when Daviera walked, Martha Rogers singled, and Nan Payne reached base on a fielder's choice. Mari Foster walked to bring home a run, and then Carol Simon followed that with a two-run single. Foster came home on an error and then Alicia Seegert drove in two more with a triple to rightfield. Morrow capped the scoring with an RBI double. The Wolverines added three in the third to cushion starter Morrow's lead. Morrow held the Falcons to one infield hit in five innings of work to go 7-3 and lower her ERA to 0.30. TICKETS ZZ TOP - 2 tickets, April 18th show at Joe Louis Arena.
