Seniors provide experience

(Continued from Page 4)
THEY'LL HAVE to do it first today
against Akron, a team whose size and
pre-season reputation will test the
Wolverines' newfound modesty. The
Zips' 22-7 record and Ohio Valley con-
ference championship came as a
great surprise to most basketball ex-
perts who picked Akron to finish at the
bottom of its league.
The Zip with the most zap is junior
Marcel Boyce. The 6-6 forward
averages 17.5 points per game and 8.0
rebounds.
From there the numbers, as well as
the inches, go down. Shawn Roberts, a
6-6 freshman, averages 7.2 points and
3.2 rebounds at the other forward
spot.
RUSSELL HOLMES, a fifth-year
senior playing his second year of
basketball, is 6-3, averages almost 10
points, and barely missed making the
Pittsburgh Steelers as a linebacker
last year.
With guards measuring 6-4 and 5-11,
the size disadvantage is complete, but
Akron coach Bob Huggins still says
the Zips will try to play man-to-man
against the Wolverines.
If Michigan can get by Akron, it
might face Iowa State whose coach
Johnny Orr gave Frieder his first ex-
perience as a college coach.
Further down the line, the
Wolverines could meet the team
against whom they earned their first
championship: Notre Dame, whom
Michigan beat to win the NIT tour-
nament two years ago.
Other possible opponents should the
Wolverines reach the Midwest
regional final include North Carolina
State, no foreigner to tournament ex-
perience, Kansas, against whom
Michigan began it's climb to national
recognition with a 30 point win last
year, and Michigan State, which han-
ded the Wolverines two of their worst
experiences with losses earlier this
year.
