4 Page 6 - The Michigan Daily - Wednesday, October 2, 1985 Records. (Continued from Page 5) nocent, boyish vocals which strike the right degree of sweet earnestness without becoming rancid. The best cut, the album's title cut, is a clever, relaxed song about the boredom and anxiety of encroaching; adulthood. Breezy lyrics and a charming, ringing guitar combine to create a fun little number that isn't Reggae pop proves a hit mindless. It shows that when Candy grows up they aren't bad at all. For now, though, they should be relegated to the bubble-gum and lip-gloss crowd who probably need some cheering up, anyway. -Arona Pearlstein BASS TAKES FASHION TN DTRIE1F Jo Re ~ N N Penny Weejun Womens - Reg. $47 NOW "3760 Men's - Reg. $66 NOW '52" __ dy g. $40 ow *3200 (Continued from Page 5) show their enthusiasm saying, "That was a clapping song and you didn't clap; try again with this love song that's a clapping song." The "love song" was "Don't Break My Heart" from their latest release, Little Baggariddim, and the audience responded to his request, clapping and cheering with enough fervor to satisfy all. The band further drew the audience in during the next piece, their well known "Cherry Oh Babe." Ali pointed his microphone around during the chorus asking everyone to sing along with him. As the crowd energetically sang, the spotlights aimed for the balconies and the crowd went crazy dancing in the brilliance of the lights. Two of UB40's strongest songs, "Johnny Too Bad" and "Red, Red Wine," finished the last set. Ob- viously a favorite with the audience, "Johnny Too Bad," with its rhythmic beat and sound enticed everyone to jump and stomp their feet in line with the band. The familiar "Red, Red Wine" inspired wild screams as well as faithful singing from the audien- ce. A perfect moment to cap off a long show with wild audience participation came during "Red, Red Wine" when, unexpectedly, a girl jumped up on stage and ran over the Brian Travers, taking advantage of the moment, had her clap out a beat in rhythm with4 the song. The band's reaction to such a situation - most bands have fans forcefully thrown offstage - reinfor- ced the audience's good feeling about the band. Coming back from their encore, UB4O once again showcased their ex- cellent horn section with a superb sax solo by Brian Travers during "Please Don't Make Me Cry." "DUBsMobile" was next with highights by Astro and the Campbel brothers. Astro's singing was in- credible and Robin and Ali clowned around mimicking one another. Finally - if a perfect ending were designed for this concert - It would have been a duet by Chrissie Hynde and Ali Campbell. However, that wasn't the case. What the audience got instead was just as entertaining. as Ali took on both parts of "I Goy You Babe." He was absolutel hilarious singing Hynde's part higher than his own. Doily Photo by DAN HABIB Although the band started out slower than the audience, by the end of the UB40's concert at Hill Auditorium Sunday night there was mutual satisfaction.
