But there was nothing to laugh about yesterday as the Wolverines clipped Cleveland State in a twinbill, 8-2 and 8- 0. In the opener, Casey Close went the distance to up his record to p-1, scat- capture tering nine hits while striking out four and allowing no free passes. Third1 baseman Matt Siuda provided three ofl Michigan's sixteen hits with a double and two singles. The second baseman - C. J. Beshke tallied four runs and knocked in three while outfielder Jeff Minnick slammed his fifth homerun in as many games. THE NIGHTCAP provided still more _ twinbill solid mound work. Mike Ignasiak im- proved his record to 4-1 with a com- plete-game shutout. Ignasiak tossed his second shutout by striking out seven and walking only one. Casey Close, after giving a clinic in pitching in the opener, also gave one in hitting in the nightcap with his ninth round-tripper of the season. He leads the club in that department. Barry Larkin temporarily took the all time 'M' lead in stolen bases. His third inning swipe of second base gave him 40, one more than teammate Mike Wat- ters. Larkin also collected two RBI's on two hits, one his seventh homerun of the season. The sweep of the doubleheader was the eighth straight sweep for the team. The wins also extended the team's win streak to six games. A chance to build on both marks will come tomorrow when the team takes on Sienna Heights in another doubleheader. Last night the 1985 stand outs were crowned at the IM building. Phi Delta Theta captured honors as top team for the second time in three years and IM Awesome took the title in the Independent division. Bruce Kay, a third-year law student, copped the Earl Riskey All-Around Male Athlete Award while the Marie "Pete" Hartwig Award for best all-around female athlete was given to Mickey Quinn. The Celtics played without forward Larry Bird, who missed only his second playoff game in six years. Bird has been troubled by bursitis and bone chips in his right elbow and was left at the Celtics' hotel.
