Best Kick-In-The-Ass
Thanks to an article in Metropolitan
Detroit Magazine and a sit-in at
University vice president for student
services Henry Johnson's office, the
administration has finally begun to
move to combat the problem of rape on
campus.
In January, a group of 30 students
and Ann Arbor residents entered John-
son's office at 9 a.m. and presented him
with a list of demands for dealing with
sexual assault on campus.
At this time there have been no con-
crete actions from the University, but
it's a step in the right direction.

Local Politics
For the first time in fifteen years, the
Democrats have gained control of the
Ann Arbor City Council. Led by former
state senator Ed Pierce, who defeated
Republican Richard Aadler, the dems
captured three of the five council seats
up for grabs in the April 1 election.
The result of this 6-5 majority could
be interesting considering the
historically partisan voting patterns of
past councils. The last time Ann Arbor
had a Democratic majority, the $5
marijuana law was approved.

Best and Most Awaited
Celebration
Without a doubt the partying that
followed the Detroit Tigers' World
Series victory was some of the most in-
tense celebrating to be seen on campus
all year.
For the Tiger fans who waited patien-

tly since 1968, there couldn't have been
a better way to spend that wonderful
Sunday night than to take their
jubilation into local streets, bars,
libraries, and dorms.
The crowd never got as far as burning
police cars and wholesale looting, but
Ann Arbor police were called to the
scene to keep watch over enthusiastic
fans. The World Series victory also
produced one of the few Daily extra
editions of recent memory.
