The jury is out on the popularity of
perms. Perms are still popular but
people are opting for natural, tousled
looks instead, Gahagan says. But Mc-
Cuiston insists that perms are out.
Using razors and cutting shears to tex-
turize hair seems to be the trend.
Creative use of coloring is an often
used tool for adding texture to hair
designs. "Color is boundless - it works
with the haircut," Gahagan says.
Highlighting is popular to give texture,
she adds.
Hair styles are following in the wake
of unstructured clothes: Pieces of hair
are being colored unnatural shades of
yellow, blue, green, and bizarre and dif-
ferent combinations, McCuiston says.
"We're finally in a place in time where
anything goes," she says. "Go for wild
looks - it'll always grow back." 0
