Prices for the ducats - especially in the student-dominated end zone sec- tions - have dropped in the past few days. Earlier in the week, midfield seats were going for $40 a crack and end zone $25. Yesterday the scalping crew in front of the Michigan Union was let- ting good seats go for $25-30, and end zone seats for about $15. THE REASON FOR the decline in price is simple -- supply is high and demand is low. Despite the top-ranking of Michigan's first opponent, Miami, in- Scalpers scared at slow sales on seats terest in the game is below the expec- tations of Ann Arbor's street en- trepreneurs. "It's not like Michigan State or Ohio State," said one scalper, who works under the name of Aaron. "It's been pretty mediocre." "I've got all the tickets I need," said another, who declined to give his name. "I ain't buying no more." Reselling tickets at a price higher than face value is illegal but the law is rarely enforced. Last year, Ann Arbor police arrested a man for scalping but the charges were later dropped. "No, I don't worry about that (getting arrested) too much," said one scalper, who nonetheless asked that his name be withheld from print. FOR THE MOST PART, the scalpers make their money by buying season booklets from students and then selling individual tickets to non-students. Students pay half the face value of $91 for season tickets and often resell them for a healthy profit. Last week a season ticket in the senior section, between the 15 and 35 yard lines, went for $125. Yesterday the same set of tickets was going for $100. Many of the scalpers agreed that prices might shoot up again on Satur- day when an influx of ticketless football fans hits the city. "Except," said one hawker rather glumly, "if it rains. Then I'm stuck." 3 ,,; ti' 1A I UNIVERSITY REFORMED CHURCH 1001 E.
