---The Weekly Daily Line The Michigan Daily - Friday, November 16, 1984- page 11 GRIDDE PICKS It has arrived. The pinnacle of the 1984 college football season is upon us. Tomorrow is the Michigan-Ohio State showdown. And who else could be this week's special guest other than Rick Leach-the greatest winner in the history of Wolverine athletics. ALTHOUGH MICHIGAN has fielded quarterbacks with more pure physical ability, no other Wolverine signal caller has had or is likely to ever have such phenomenal success. Bo Schembechler inserted Leach into the starting lineup as a freshman, back in 1975. 't'hat year Micnigan was un- defeated in the Big Ten going into the Ohio State game. But the Buckeyes won that game and sent the Wolverines to the. Orange Bowl. Leach never lost another Ohio State game, leading the Wolverines to three consecutive Rose Bowls ('76-'78). In '76 Michigan annihilated the Buckeyes, 22-0 in Columbus. In '77 the Wolverines took a 14-6 victory and in '78 OSU was beaten handily, 14-3. "MY TWO MOST satisfying (Ohio State) game were in '76 when I was a sophomore and in '78 when I was a senior," said Leach last week. "The win in '76 was in Columbus and was Bo's first win ever at Ohio State. And then beating them again in Columbus in '78 was special." Leach's record in his four years as a starter was 38-8-2. And he still holds the team records for most plays and most touchdown passes. No one is more qualified to pick this game, than Ricky Leach. Ask not for whom. the (mid- night) bell tolls. It tolls for thee. That's right. Tonight at midnight, your last chance to play Griddes in the 1984 season is gone. Kaput. Final. It has been a glorious year for Griddes, but alas all good things must end. Even if you never did win that free, small, one-item pizza from Pizza Bob's (and there still is a chance that you could win), let's face it-we've all learned a little about oursleves. Playing Griddes has made all of us a bit more well-rounded. And if you have yet to play this year, bring your picks down to the Daily. Do if for your- selves, not us. 1.
