IN THE second floor reference room, the mass of bodies created the largest fracas of the night. When it was over, the room was scattered with papers and trash. Few were left studying. "If you think of what it might have been like to write a paper when the freak show came through . . . that's where the real damage lies, not in the papers being scattered," said Paul Beavers supervisor of circulation at the library. Lorne Brown, an LSA junior studying m when the crowd entered, said she ex- perienced "images of the French Revolution." THE enthusiasm was infectious, though, and many of the studiers eagerly joined in the partying. "I was in the library with my books and I heard the din, then the roar," said Neil Matovelle, an engineering senior. "I ran down to see what happeend and joined the crowd." Tiring of the libraries, the crowd finally split into two groups about 10:45 p.m. to infiltrate campus dormitories. One headed towards the Hill dorms, while the other marched to South Quad. ner The first of the Hill dorms to ex- perience the Tiger euphoria was Stockwell. Dave Taylor, a LSA senior brought along his bartione horn to lead the group in renditions of "Let's Go Tigers!" and "Charge!" The dotted line on the map below traces the path of the horde as they toured the campus and stopped at the folowing points: 1) Revelers gather outside Charlie's after the Tigers' 8-4 vic- tory over San Diego. 2) The mob, now numbering approximately 300 people, moves down State Street, slowing traffic. 3) The celebrators run wild through the Nickels Arcade. 4) The Undergraduate Library is the first University building to feel Tiger fever as the gang parades through the UGLi yelling, "Tigers!" 5) The students pay a friendly visit to University President Harold Shapiro. Shapiro did not come out to greet them, despite their insistent pleas. 6) The law library is invaded by the boisterous group. 7) The next stop for the group is the Union. Though still en- thusiastic, a few of the group have fallen by the wayside. 8) After the Union, the partiers converge on the Graduate Library. They are refused admittance and about 150 of them head for the Hill Dorms. The others - less than 100 - are more persistent, and wreak havoc in the grad. That group hit the quads after their library spree ended. I'n! ' Ir |I \- -.-....a -u e
