UNTERBRINK, a sophomore, pitched both games on Saturday and relieved starter Deanna Hacker in each contest Sunday. "She is a very good pitcher and gave us a lot of cJtc trouble," said Michigan coach Bob DeCarolis. "You won't score a lot of runs off Amy." The Chelsea native took to the mound in the fourth inning of cJtc the first game with two Wolverines on base and no outs. After a Carol Patrick bunt single loaded the bases, Unterbrink sing. mowed down Jody Humphries and Alicia Seegert. An error wise by Indiana first baseman Nancy Savage permitted one run to tters, score, but Unterbrink then forced Michigan shortstop Lisa * Panetta to ground out and end the inning relatively un- scathed. Michigan never threatened again, with the excep- cJtc tion of a two-out double by Linda Allen in the sixth inning which knocked in pinch runner Lisa Juzysta. Allen, a tran- I sfer student from Indiana, had a big weekend against her former teammates, collecting three doubles and a pair of cJtc singles in the four games. It took only two Michigan singles in the first inning of the second game for Blevins to give Unterbrink the call. The lanky righthander pitched out of that jam and coasted the cJtc rest of the way, striking out the last three Wolverine batters. For the day, Unterbrink fanned 16 Michigan players while raising her record to 16-4 VICKI MORROW (3-6) and Mari Foster (2-2) suffered the defeats for the Blue. Both experienced a lack of support in the field and at the plate. Michigan committed four errors in the first game, including a horrifying three-error third inning in which the Hoosiers tallied three runs. In the nightcap, In- diana squeaked out only three hits but was aided by several walks and two critical errors by Wolverine second baseman Mary Bitkowski. Michigan also stranded nine runners in the second contest. "We can't let opportunities get away like that," DeCarolis said. "We tried things like the squeeze, but we couldn't get the bunt down. The walks and errors also hurt us, and that's the equation for a loss." The Wolverines return to the diamond today to square off against Eastern Michigan in a doubleheader at the Varsity Softball Diamond. Although Michigan's chances of making a post-season tournament depend upon its finish in the Big Ten, DeCarolis considers the non-conference contest against EMU important. "Losing three of four was a letdown, but there's still a lot of season left," DeCarolis said. "With Eastern we have to get some confidence back and some momentum going into the Iowa games (this weekend)." The Hurons are paced by hurler Nanette Push (11-5, 0.52) who has tossed 106 of Eastern's 130 innings this season. The Hurons may decide to save the big Push for Wednesday, however, when they face Mid-American Conference rival Kent State. Write on... Editorial and Typing Service 996-0566 K. C. Michigan finished with a five-man, two day total of 747, 16 strokes behind the winner, Purdue, and 13 behind Wisconsin and Illinois. "I'M VERY pleased with the team," said coach Jim Carras. "It was our first tournament and the competition was reasonably good." The tournament had to be shortened to two rounds instead of the scheduled three because of frost on Thursday. With ideal weather on Saturday, however, Michigan freshman Steve Ludwig fired a 69. But Sunday brought the winter-type weather, and only Roberts could produce good numbers. Roberts finished fourth in the in- dividual competition with a 143 total. "We need to be consistent in our scoring,'" said Carras. "Both in in- dividual and in team." Michigan will travel to Ohio State this weekend to compete in the Kepler In- vitational Tournament. F ROOMMATES needed - Fall. Share 6 bedroom apt., 5 minutes from campus.
