Softballers split The Michigan Daily - Thursday, April 5, 1984 - Page 9 Special to the Daily Rain, rain go away and don't come back while we're trying to play softball. That is what the Michigan softball team was saying yesterday when it was doing battle with the Toledo Rockets. The Wolverines managed to split the double header with the Rockets, losing the first game, 2-1, and winning the second in a steady rain, 6-1., LINDA ALLEN took the loss for Michigan, dropping her record to 4-4 on the year. She did all she could for the Wolverines at the plate getting two RBI's on two hits. Michigan's only run of the first game came when Linda Allen singled in Alicia Seegert after she doubled. In rounding out the doubleheader, Michigan came alive to score six runs and allowing only one. Pitcher Julie Clark pushed her record to a perfect 4- 0. She had a shut-out going into the last inning but Toledo managed to score an unearned run on a Michigan error. Alicia Seegert played well fo the Wolverines in both games. She got one hit in the first game and three in the second. Seegert has hit safely in 20 of the 22 games this season. Other Wolverines helping the cause were Lisa Panetta and Leslie Bean, with two hits and two RBI's apiece and Mari Foster, who pounded out a pair of safeties. Michigan is now 13-9 overall. Toledo is 7-4. The Wolverines next action is this weekend when they play host to defen- ding Big Ten champion Indiana. Michigan and Indiana play double headers on Saturday and Sunday. The committee will next consider the shot clock issue at a meeting after next year's Final Four Tournament in Lexington, Ky. Ed Steitz, the commit- tee's secretary-rules editor, predicted it would be adopted then. STEITZ, athletic director at Springfield, Mass. College, was the only member of the committee to appear at a press conference after the closed-door meeting. "The vote was very, very close," he said. Steitz said the committee decided not to go with the shot clock at this time, ''as a result of uncertainty in the minds of some of the members of the commit- tee whether or not to go with a clock for the entire game." Some of the committee members wanted the shot clock used during the entire game while others favored shut- ting it off in the last few minutes, he said. In order for the rules committee to adopt a uniform, nationwide shot clock, it would have required a two-thirds vote of the 13 member committee. THE COMMITTEE failed to respond to a survey of the nation's college hoop coaches. In the survey disclosed by the National Association of Basketball Coaches here last Thursday, 53 percent of the college coaches favored a shot _ Scores National League Atlanta 4, Philadelphia 0 NHL Playoffs St. Louis 3, Detroit 2 Montreal 2, BostonI Washington 4, Philadelphia 2 Quebec 3. It also increased the number. of timeouts in games involving the elec- tronic media from three to four per game. "The committee felt that the adoption of the coaching box would be a significant step in improving bench decorum and the image of an already great game," Steitz said. Can na tin a traded to Blitz. From staff and wire reports Former Michigan linebacker Andy Cannavino was traded yesterday by the Michigan Panthers to the Chicago Blitz for an undisclosed 1985 draft choice. Cannavino, who was an All-Big Ten linebacker and defensive co-captain with the Wolverines, has been on the injured reserve list this season. Cannavino played at Michigan from 1977-80 and left as the third leading tackler in the school's history.
